In Horní Lhota, you can choose between cultural and historical attractions and those focused on the landscape. The Church of St. Dionysius and the ruins of Sehrad Castle offer different insights into the history of the village; a blue-marked hiking trail and several cycling routes bring their own route-planning considerations. The local Fašank tradition is another feature. Whether you focus on the church and castle, a route or the tradition can be guided by your travel interests.

Landscape and Routes

Part of Horní Lhota lies within the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. The Olše stream flows through the village; its right-bank tributary is the Komoncový stream. For planning purposes, it is worth distinguishing between these details: the protected landscape area covers part of the municipality, while the Olše flows through Horní Lhota.

A blue-marked hiking trail runs through the cadastral area of Horní Lhota. Cycling route 5056 also passes through the cadastral area. Another cycling route runs from Luhačovice to Vizovice via Dolní Lhota and Horní Lhota. When planning your ride, note the difference between these cycling route details: you can identify route 5056 by its number, and the other route by the sequence of villages. The “Báje a pověsti pod Starým Světlovem” educational trail leads from Pozlovice in the direction of Horní Lhota. This, too, is a named trail with its own directional detail for planning.

Church, Castle and Local History

The Church of St. Dionysius in Horní Lhota is a listed cultural monument. Its surviving core was built in 1700 on the site of a presumably older wooden church. The present-day interior is adorned with an altarpiece by J. Úprka. The construction date and the furnishings are two different points of reference for dating: the year 1700 refers to the surviving core; the altarpiece is part of the church’s present-day interior.

The ruins of Sehrad Castle (Engelsberk) lie immediately north of Horní Lhota, above the village, on the Vala spur. What remains are a few foundation fragments, as well as imposing ramparts with ditches. The contrast between the scant foundation fragments and the imposing ramparts with ditches makes the different parts of the ruins clear.

A watermill has also been preserved in the centre of Horní Lhota. It is in a different location from the castle ruins: the mill is in the centre, while the ruins lie to the north, above the village, on the Vala spur. This makes it possible to distinguish between two different geographical points of reference for the local history.
