A chapel with a clearly dated building history, a carved wooden cross and a chamber showcasing folk architecture give Hrivinuv Ujezd a cultural focus. The village is also located in a valley of the Vizovická vrchovina; the cycling connection and bus route are useful reference points when planning your journeys. Culture, outdoor activities and travel to the village therefore present distinct considerations.
The Chapel and Its Building History
The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius was built between 1895 and 1896 and consecrated by Father František Chudáček on 12 September 1897. The consecration followed the construction the next year; in 1996, a sacristy was added to the building. Two bells hang in its tower, dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius and to Saint Wenceslas. The dedication thus reflects the two saints named in the chapel’s name and adds Saint Wenceslas. The sacristy was added almost a century after the consecration, marking a later phase of construction.
The Wooden Cross and Folk Architecture
The protected wooden cross, dating from 1877, features carved decorations. The chamber at house No. 11 is considered an example of 19th-century folk architecture. Compared with the chapel, these two landmarks offer distinct points of interest: the carvings are the defining feature of the cross, while the chamber’s significance lies in its place within the architectural culture of an entire era. Together, a precisely dated, decorated wooden cross and the broader tradition of folk architecture offer different ways of exploring the village’s history.
Traditions with Specific Dates
A 2012 report describes a July pilgrimage at the chapel, as well as the building’s regular thorough cleaning and decoration for the pilgrimage and Christmas. The Martinské hody festival was celebrated in traditional costume for the third time in 2013. The children’s folklore ensemble Skřivánek performed songs, dances and sayings from the Luhačovské Zálesà region. The two accounts look back on different cultural occasions: a religious celebration at the chapel and a festival combining regional folklore with traditional dress.
Walking, Cycling and Bus Travel
When planning outdoor activities, it is useful to distinguish between walking and cycling. No marked hiking trails pass through Hrivinuv Ujezd; if you are looking for a marked hiking route, check the current situation locally. The village is connected by a paved road to marked cycling route 5176 in KelnĂky. From there, the connection continues via Doudravy to the marked cycling network around UherskĂ© HradištÄ›. A municipal plan from 2009 describes this connection; check the current route before setting out. For walking, the key consideration is the local status of marked trails, while for cycling it is the road connection to KelnĂky and the continuation of the marked network.
Bus route 190 serves the Hrivinuv Ujezd stop on the UherskĂ˝ Brod–LuhaÄŤovice–ZlĂn route. The stated timetable is valid from 14 June 2026 to 12 December 2026. If you are travelling by bus, check the times before departure to make sure your travel plans match the current timetable.
