Tichov lies in a valley along the Tichovský potok, on the southern edge of the Vizovické vrchy, at an elevation of 430 to 495 metres above sea level. Its travel themes range from outdoor activities to religious and agricultural history. Tichov offers opportunities for hiking, cycling and winter tourism. There is also a sports complex on the edge of the village, the Chapel of Christ the King and a fruit distillery in the lower part of the village, Rovni. Nature, local history and regional production sit side by side, so no single theme has to define your stay.

Nature, Activities and Leisure

The newly reconstructed sports complex on the edge of the village includes a football pitch, a children’s playground and an outdoor swimming pool. This gives the complex a different focus from the broader opportunities for hiking, cycling and winter tourism: it brings football, play and swimming together in one place. When planning your visit, you can consider these separately: the activities mentioned provide the broader framework for getting out into the landscape, while the three facilities offer specific leisure options within Tichov.

Chapel and a Long Local History

Construction of the Chapel of Christ the King began in 1947; it was consecrated at a local celebration in 1948. It is under the pastoral care of the parish of Valašské Klobouky, where Mass is held regularly twice a week. The chapel thus combines a clearly dated history of its construction with its role in the life of the church.

Tichov’s past reaches far beyond the history of this building. Historically, the village was an agricultural settlement with the character of a pasekář settlement; in the 17th and 18th centuries, there were five sheepfolds. An extensive cremation burial ground from the Early and Late Bronze Age, associated with the Lusatian culture, was also investigated in the Stráže area. This archaeological evidence belongs to a much earlier period than the chapel and sheepfolds, broadening the picture of the village’s history.

Klášťov and Ploština Nearby

There are different points of interest in Tichov’s nearby surroundings, too. Klášťov lies close to Tichov and is the highest point of the Vizovické vrchy ridge, in the ridge’s eastern part. At the summit are the Čertův kámen rock and the remains of an extensive Celtic hillfort. Ploština is also nearby, around five kilometres from Tichov; it has a newly reconstructed memorial and a museum. The two destinations appeal to different interests: Klášťov for its ridge and hillfort remains, and Ploština for its memorial and museum.

Fruit Processing and Slivovitz

Built in 1995 in the lower part of the village, Rovni, the fruit distillery includes a room for drying fruit and a cauldron for cooking povidl. The facility thus combines fruit distilling with drying fruit and preparing povidl. If you would like to learn about the distillery, you can arrange a visit in advance. In addition, a tasting of slivovitz from the Tichov distillery is held in Tichov every year, and people from the wider area also attend. A visit and a tasting are separate occasions: a visit requires an appointment in advance; if you want to plan for the tasting, check the date beforehand.
