Machová combines a distinctive local history with paths where tree species and a nature-based game have their place. At its centre is a rebuilt bell tower; the statue of the Virgin Mary and the Na Kopci cross are other historical landmarks. Easter traditions, annual events and a sports complex round out the picture. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Machová, these different features can help you choose a place that suits your interests.

History in Buildings and Memorials

The bell tower stands in the centre of the village. It was demolished in 1994 and rebuilt as a replica of the original structure. The tower thus links a central local landmark with a clearly dated chapter in its architectural history.

Machová was first mentioned in writing in 1397, when it was known as Machova lhota. The year and its former name anchor the village’s history in a specific written record, while the bell tower’s reconstruction marks a later change to the built environment. A statue of the Virgin Mary was acquired in 1888. It stands on the cadastral boundary between Machová and Mysločovice, on the road connecting the two municipalities. The Na Kopci cross dates from 1924. Together, these landmarks represent several historical reference points with different dates and locations.

Local Customs and Seasonal Events

Machovské klapotání is a long-standing local tradition during the Easter season. During Chození s Májkem, girls went from house to house singing the traditional song “Stála panenka Maria jako růžička červená”. The two customs have different focuses: one is associated with Easter, while the other centres on visiting homes and singing.

An exhibition of home-grown fruit and vegetables takes place every autumn, and a sausage tasting is held every March. The events differ both in season and subject: the exhibition focuses on home-grown fruit and vegetables, while the March event is dedicated to tasting sausages. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the date in advance.

Field Paths, Rest and Sport

The field paths in Machová are intended for walks and cycling. Wooden signs along the paths give the names of the tree species; one route also features the nature-based game Piškvorky. This offers opportunities for botanical discovery and play as well as exercise. When planning your visit, you can decide whether to focus more on the path itself, the tree species or the nature-based game.

At the Bořínek rest area, two sun loungers offer views of Machová and the surrounding countryside. The resting place has a different focus from the path signage: here, seating and scenery go hand in hand.

The sports complex includes courts for tennis, nohejbal and volleyball, as well as a skatepark. By contrast, the field paths are intended for walks and cycling. These different options may influence your choice if you would prefer to spend your stay using sports facilities or exploring outdoor paths.
