Bratřejov offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: the Church of Sts Cyril and Methodius, three protected sulphur springs and a stop on the Vizovické vrchy nature trail. These features bring together architectural history, natural features and an activity that can be enjoyed year-round. Depending on whether you are more interested in architecture, springs or the nature trail, you can choose the focus of your visit.

Church and Sacred Precinct

The Church of Sts Cyril and Methodius was built between 1871 and 1890 in the Neo-Gothic style. Its construction dates place it in the 19th century; the name of the style points to a later revival of Gothic forms. Since 2007, it has been a listed immovable cultural monument. The dates of construction and the monument status answer different questions: the dates indicate the building period, while the designation specifies its cultural protection status.

Together with the rectory and the adjacent cemetery, the church forms a sacred precinct in Bratřejov. The ensemble is therefore a cultural and historical point of interest in its own right, in addition to the church building. Here, the term refers to the relationship between the three components; when considering the church, you can therefore take note both of its Neo-Gothic architecture and of its place within the sacred precinct.

Klášťov: Hillfort with a Visible Rampart

Klášťov is home to the highest-elevation hillfort site in Moravia. The site is surrounded by a clearly visible rampart. These two features complement each other: the superlative places the archaeological site in the context of Moravia, while the rampart provides a specific, visible boundary. For travellers interested in archaeological sites, the rampart is a precise point of reference; it makes the layout of the hillfort site easier to picture than its name alone. This is a different way to approach the site than the church: there, the focus is on the construction dates and Neo-Gothic style; here, it is on the site’s elevation and visible rampart.

Sulphur Springs in Bratřejov

Three protected sulphur springs are located within the cadastral area of Bratřejov. One sulphur spring in Bratřejov has been developed as a contained spring. The natural feature can thus be considered on two scales: three protected springs within the cadastral area, and one specific spring at a named location that has been structurally enclosed. This makes it possible to distinguish the wider scope of the protection designation from the individual, structurally contained spring.

The municipality restored the spring in 2012. It added an access path, a new bench and a masonry surround, making the spring more accessible. The work combined improved access with a specific place to stop and a constructed feature: the path leads to the spring, the bench provides a place to sit, and the masonry surround gives it its visible form. You can therefore appreciate the spring not only as a natural feature, but also through its design.

Vizovické vrchy Nature Trail

The Vizovické vrchy nature trail passes through Bratřejov at one of its stops and can be visited year-round. If you include the trail in your travel plans, its stop provides a specific connection to Bratřejov; the year-round access also offers a useful point of reference when choosing when to travel. Unlike a single building or spring, the nature trail itself is an activity, with a named stop in Bratřejov.
