The landscape around Vidče is predominantly characterized by pastureland. The surrounding area offers views of the Veřovické vrchy, the Vsacké vrchy, and the Hostýnské vrchy, particularly Radhošť. At 597 metres, Videčské paseky is the highest point in the municipality. Thus, views of several named mountain ranges are complemented by a clearly specified highest point within the municipality. In addition to the landscape, the history of the buildings offers another way to discover Vidče.

One specific connection to a watercourse is Maretka: the stream flows into the Bečva River.

Building history and cultural traditions

The wooden bell tower in Vidče is a traditional timber-framed structure and the municipality’s oldest cultural monument. According to the date on one of its beams, it dates from 1812.

The Church of St Cyril and Methodius is a valuable example of Neo-Gothic architecture. It was built between 1908 and 1914. Chronologically, this construction period is considerably later than the date inscribed on a beam in the bell tower. The architectural descriptions also differ: here, a traditional timber-framed structure is contrasted with Neo-Gothic architecture.

The Valašenka children’s folk ensemble from Vidče was founded in 1953. It put together ethnographic programmes depicting life in a Wallachian village from spring through winter. This seasonal arc offers a different perspective on cultural history than the buildings: the focus is on portraying village life over the course of the seasons.

Routes and seasonal activities

A cycle route runs through Vidče, as does the Hradisko educational trail. The trail provides historical and natural history information about significant areas of the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area. The two routes therefore differ in focus: cycling on the one hand, and natural history and history on the other. You can use these different themes to help you choose an activity that interests you.

In winter, several easy, well-maintained cross-country ski trails are available in Vidče. Cross-country skiing is a seasonal highlight alongside the cultural and landscape attractions. Trail availability and maintenance may vary. When choosing when to travel, therefore, distinguish between winter trail activities and Valašenka’s ethnographic programmes, which depicted village life from spring through winter.

Plan your stay around your interests

Consider what you would like to focus on during your stay before planning your accommodation and activities together. If you have a specific cross-country skiing trip in mind, check trail availability and maintenance in advance.
