In Police, cycling, landscape and specific local features stand out as distinct points of interest. If you are considering the town as a possible overnight destination, you can first think about whether cycling routes, nature or local history should shape your stay. This lets you tailor your choice to your own travel interests without assuming a fixed daily itinerary.
Location between rolling hills and high points
Police lies 7 km southwest of Valašské Meziříčí, on the edge of the Kelečská pahorkatina. Its southern part extends into the slopes of the Hostýnské vrchy. At 557 m, Hůrka is the highest point in Police; the Loučka forms the axis of the cadastral area. This brings together a location on the edge of the hilly landscape, slopes to the south and two distinct geographical reference points.
Arboretum and local history
The Police Arboretum is located on the grounds of the former Ve Zmole orchard. It is home to 70 species of trees and shrubs commonly found in Central Europe. The arboretum offers panoramic views of the Beskydy and Javorníky. These provide two different points of interest if you are choosing a nature-focused visit: the tree and shrub species, and the views of the two mountain ranges. The arboretum opened in May 2018; at the time, it was open to the public free of charge. Check current access arrangements before planning a specific visit.
The town’s architectural and commemorative history is also part of its character: the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was built in 1933, and Police also has a memorial to the victims of both world wars. The religious building and the memorial offer different points of interest if you would like to include local history alongside the landscape and cycling.
Cycling and the cultural trail
Cycling enthusiasts have two distinct points of interest. The municipal sports plan for 2021–2027 lists signposted cycling route 6216, which passes through Police on its way to Valašské Meziříčí. There is also a pump track on municipal land, open to the general public. The route leads to a named destination; the pump track is a facility on municipal land.
The Cyril and Methodius Route passes through the southeastern part of Police’s cadastral area. It is a network of several routes known as a European Cultural Route. The routes approach Velehrad from different directions and follow in the footsteps of Slavic heritage. In its theme and course, this cultural route differs from cycling route 6216.
Events in 2026
On 17 January 2026, the traditional New Year’s walking trip went on foot to Oznice and back to Police. At the Vepřové hody held in Police on 24 January, visitors could sample traditional pork specialities. On 7 February, the masked Vodění medvěda carnival procession visited residents’ homes. The third edition of the Polický košt slivovice was held on 14 March 2026 at Hospoda Nad Točnou. Police also co-hosted the “Polický okruh – memoriál Milana Gerly” mountain biking competition in 2026, which is part of the DTB Série.
