Marked trails, far-reaching views and a protected wooden bell tower give Lázy several sides. A yellow-marked hiking route leads from Oznice through the village to Pržno; cycling routes also pass through Lázy, and the Hostýnská magistrála is relevant for cross-country skiing as well. The village’s history includes a former ceramics workshop and a natural monument. When planning your trip, you can choose a focus based on activity and interest: the routes differ in length, type and destination, while the bell tower, the history of the workshop and the lime tree offer another way to discover the village.
Hiking and Cross-Country Skiing on Different Routes
The yellow-marked hiking route from Oznice to Pržno passes through Lázy. It is about 13.5 kilometres long and is recommended primarily for hikers. Another option is the Hostýnská magistrála, which runs from Svatý Hostýn to Lázy. Its main section is of moderate difficulty and more than 19 kilometres long; it intersects with secondary routes at seven points. These distance figures refer to different route descriptions: the yellow route is about 13.5 kilometres long, while the main section of the magistrála is more than 19 kilometres. It is also important to note that moderate difficulty is explicitly stated only for this main section.
The Hostýnská magistrála is also a groomed and marked cross-country skiing route through the Hostýnské vrchy. This means that, alongside hiking, another activity is associated with the same named route. If you are planning your stay around your preferred way of getting active, it is worth distinguishing between the hiking trail and the cross-country skiing route and consulting the description that applies to the one you choose.
Cycling Routes and Views
Cycle Route No. 6216 runs from Valašské Meziříčí via Poličná, Branky, Police, Podolí and Lázy, then back to Valašské Meziříčí. Another route runs from Valašské Meziříčí via Lázy and Rajnochovice to the Rozhledna Kelčský Javorník observation tower. Another connection reaches Lázy from Valašské Meziříčí via Jarcovská Kula along the Cyrilometodějská stezka. Cycle Route No. 6118 also follows the marked Hostýnská magistrála to Lázy. The routes offer different destinations: one returns to Valašské Meziříčí, one leads to the observation tower, and others reach Lázy. It is a good idea to check the current route before setting out on a cycling trip.
From Lázy, there are far-reaching views of the Kelečská pahorkatina, the Bečva valley in the direction of Hranice, the Beskydy Mountains and the Vsetínské vrchy. The landscapes mentioned therefore include uplands, a valley and mountain ranges. The views add a distinct focus to the route options: those interested in the surrounding area will find several different landscape features here, without needing to follow a particular route.
Bell Tower, Ceramics History and Natural Monument
The typical Wallachian wooden bell tower in the centre of Lázy was built in 1925 and is a protected cultural monument. Its bell bears an inscription with the name Volfgang Adam Straub from Olomouc and the year 1848. The two dates refer to different details: 1925 is the year the tower was built, while 1848 appears in the bell’s inscription.
The history of traditional crafts includes a stoneware workshop that operated in Lázy from 1854 until after 1900. It made red majolica from local clay, glazed white on the inside. The combination of clay, colour and glaze gives the former ceramics production a distinctive character and adds another subject of cultural history to the bell tower.
The Lípa v Lázech lime tree is designated as a natural monument: it is a solitary large-leaved lime (Tilia platyphyllos). Lázy thus brings together architectural heritage, traditional crafts and a named natural monument. When choosing what to focus on, you can consider the routes and these local features separately or combine hiking, landscapes and cultural history.
