Lidečko lies in the Senice valley on the border between the Vizovické vrchy and the Javorníky. The Čertovy skály sandstone wall, protected natural areas and Wallachian culture offer different focuses for a stay. Local festivals with dates shaped by the seasons are another option. This makes it easy to plan your trip around nature, history or an event.
Cliffs and protected landscape
The Čertovy skály natural monument lies on the northern edge of Lidečko. The sandstone wall is about 150 m long and up to 25 m high. Climbers use the cliffs as a training crag, with around 100 established routes. There is a car park, a children's playground and a place to get refreshments directly below.
The ČD Lidečko-ves stop provides access to Čertovy skály. Check the current service to the stop before travelling. The Kopce natural monument protects a large rockslide with fissure caves. In addition, the part of Lidečko's cadastral area east of the railway lies within the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area.
Wallachian history and culture
The Baroque Church of St Catherine of Alexandria is the oldest historic building in the municipality of Lidečko. Lidečko is also home to early Baroque bells of St Catherine, dating from 1664, and the Holy Saviour, dating from 1665. Another historic stop is a traditional Wallachian chapel, built in 1949: an approximately 1 km path leads to it from the village centre.
The Betlém in the municipal office building is open year-round; check the visiting arrangements before your visit. It features more than 320 human and animal figures. Alongside the central Nativity scene, it depicts life in a Wallachian village in the 20th century. The Vařákovy paseky educational trail presents the history of the burned-down Wallachian settlement of Vařákovy paseky.
Festivals throughout the year
The Dožínky harvest festival is usually held in late August. It includes a procession through the village in Wallachian folk costumes, followed by a programme beneath Čertovy skály. The exact dates may vary from year to year, so check the date for your travel year.
The Lidečkovský jarmark is held in autumn, in early November. The market includes a demonstration of a traditional home slaughter and displays of products by local craftspeople and entrepreneurs. Here too, the exact date may vary each year. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check that the event date matches your travel dates.
Cycling
The northern section of the Bevlava Cycle Route runs from Ústí u Vsetína through Lidečko to Valašské Příkazy. This makes it possible to include Lidečko as part of this designated cycle route. The village offers different points of interest for planning your trip: cliffs and protected nature, cultural and historical themes, seasonal festivals or the route of the cycle path.
