Zdechov offers a range of themes for a stay: the protected Beskydy landscape, firefighting technology, Wallachian folk costume traditions, and activities in the snow or on the water. To plan your trip, you can first decide whether nature, local cultural heritage or activity should be the main focus. The specific places and attractions offer different highlights.
Nature and Trails
The entire cadastral area of Zdechov lies within the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Beskydy). The surrounding area features valuable natural landscapes: juniper pastures, flower-rich meadows where orchids grow, and well-preserved woodland. A protected natural site lies within the cadastral area on the eastern slope of Žďár (689 m). Part of the typical Wallachian landscape has been preserved there, including a juniper pasture with several orchid species.
You can borrow Nordic walking poles from the Zdechov municipal office for the educational trail and Nordic walking route. If you plan to use either of these, you can include borrowing the poles as a specific equipment item in your plans.
Culture and Local Traditions
At the firefighting technology museum in Zdechov, visitors can view firefighting uniforms, old photographs and fire pumps. The collection brings together clothing, photographic material and technical equipment. Notable exhibits include a still-functioning fire pump from 1904—a specific piece of technological history with its own date.
The Wallachian folk costume also has a local connection: Krosienkové caps were traditionally made in Zdechov as part of this costume. They are known as “zděcháky.” The name gives this craft tradition a distinct form associated with the town.
Another glimpse of the cultural heritage is the Roman Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord. It is a protected cultural monument, built in 1778 under Maria Theresa. Together, technical exhibits, folk costume traditions and a historically dated church building represent different aspects of the local cultural heritage.
Activities and Snow Conditions
Zdechov’s sports area includes a 360 m ski lift rated as intermediate difficulty, with an 80 m vertical drop; the slope is groomed with a snow groomer. Seasonal operation depends on snow conditions. There are also numerous cross-country ski trails around Zdechov, which are machine-groomed when snow conditions are favorable.
For winter planning, different details are relevant: the ski lift’s length and vertical drop are specified, while machine-grooming of the trails is explicitly conditional on favorable snow conditions. Snow conditions therefore matter for both activities, but the stated conditions are not the same.
Zdechov’s swimming pool offers a different kind of activity. It has a swimming pool, a multi-purpose sports court, a children’s paddling pool, a water slide and refreshments. Thus, swimming facilities, a sports area and refreshments are among the pool complex’s different features.
The Zděchovská 30 event takes place annually in Zdechov. If you would like to plan your stay around it, check the date of the relevant edition.
