Lačnov brings together sandstone formations, natural monuments, hiking trails and Wallachian heritage. When planning your trip, it is especially helpful to understand the differences between the destinations and routes: the Lačnovské skály can be reached on foot, while the educational trail from Horní Lideč passes via Lačnovské rybníky to Lačnov. There is also a route from a museum to the original settlement site, as well as historic buildings and a church. This lets you focus your visit on nature and outdoor activities or on the history of the village.
Rocks and Natural Monuments
The Lačnovské skály are a group of sandstone rock formations around the summit of Mount Vrátnice and on its southern slopes towards Lačnov. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Lačnov to the rocks. They are accessible only on foot and are not suitable for strollers.
The Lačnov Natural Monument is located in the Vizovická vrchovina hills, on the western edge of Lačnov's built-up area, beyond the kindergarten. It was first designated on September 21, 1948. The Sucháčkovy paseky Natural Monument is a different natural area: it lies about one kilometer southeast of Lačnov, on the right-hand slope of the Lačnovský potok valley. The protected area consists of a flower-rich meadow with numerous specimens of the specially protected white-flowered saffron.
Hiking Trails and Other Activities
The 16-kilometer Vařákovy paseky Educational Trail runs through Lačnov and has 15 information points. The route begins at Horní Lideč railway station and then leads via Lačnovské rybníky to Lačnov. Its start point, route and information points give the educational trail a different focus from the hiking route to the rocks.
Another route leads 3.5 kilometers from the Vařákovy paseky Museum to the original settlement site; there is a forest playground along the way. Compared with the 16-kilometer educational trail, this is considerably shorter of the two routes described. While this route connects the museum and the settlement site, the educational trail has 15 information points along its route.
The fishing center at Lačnovské rybníky attracts anglers from the surrounding area. The ponds are also along the educational trail, so hiking and fishing are different activities visitors can enjoy in Lačnov.
Museum and Wallachian Building History
The permanent exhibition at the Vařákovy paseky Museum commemorates the tragic destruction of the Vařákovy paseky settlement by fire at the end of the Second World War. The museum displays reconstructions of original Wallachian buildings, including a dwelling hut, a barn and farm buildings. Visitors can also see a dwelling hut, a farm building, a stable, a drying hut and a cellar. In this way, the memory of a historic event and the chance to see traditional buildings are presented side by side.
Farmstead No. 13 in Lačnov, built of timber, is a historic monument arranged around a square courtyard. The complex comprises a dwelling house, a stable with a hayloft, a barn and a chamber. One beam in the complex is dated 1811. The date refers to this beam; the farmstead can also be described by its layout and individual buildings.
The Roman Catholic Church of Panny Marie Královny nebe a země (Our Lady, Queen of Heaven and Earth) dates from 1969 to 1971. It is a branch church in the Valašské Klobouky deanery. Lačnov therefore has different historic reference points side by side: a dated beam in the farmstead and the construction period of the church.
