The Radhošťská ovčí dálnice nature trail runs for about four kilometres from Pustevny saddle to the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius on Radhošť. Its nine stops explore the nature, landscape and history of this part of the Beskids. The route thus connects two clearly identified destinations with a thematic way of experiencing the landscape. In winter, you can complete the trail on skis, and in summer by mountain bike; both depend on snow and trail conditions.

Hiking trails to Radhošť

The statue of Radegast stands halfway between Pustevny and Radhošť, at an elevation of 1,120 metres. From Pustevny, it can be reached along a wide path that is also marked as a blue hiking trail and as European long-distance path E3. When choosing an excursion, distinguish between the destinations: the nature trail goes as far as the chapel on Radhošť, while the statue is halfway between Pustevny and the mountain. You can therefore choose between a route to the chapel and a destination halfway along the way.

Cross-country skiing and a winter event

A total of 74 kilometres of cross-country ski trails of varying difficulty are groomed in the Pustevny area. The extent and trail conditions vary from one winter season to another. One option is an easy ridge route with splendid views towards Radhošť or Martiňák. The trail area offers routes of varying difficulty; the ridge route is specifically described as an easy option. Several cross-country ski trails pass through Pustevny, which is considered the starting point for a popular cross-country skiing area. When planning your day, you can take your preferred level of difficulty and direction into account without mistaking the total number of trail kilometres for the length of a single route.

For a January trip, the ice and snow sculpture exhibition is another seasonal highlight to consider alongside cross-country skiing. It takes place every year in January and has a long-standing tradition. The exact dates and themes vary from year to year.

Jurkovič’s architecture and reconstruction

The Pustevny complex has been designated a national cultural monument since 1995. Its dominant buildings—Libušín, Maměnka and Zvonice—form a unique ensemble of late-19th-century Art Nouveau buildings by Slovak architect Dušan Samuel Jurkovič. Libušín’s more recent history is also part of its story: following the fire in 2014, the building was reconstructed using scientific methods. The same materials and craftsmanship were used as more than a hundred years ago. Libušín’s history can therefore be understood through both its architecture and the methods and materials used in its reconstruction.

At the Stezka Valaška observation tower, the top floor is 1,099 metres above sea level, and the view extends up to 100 kilometres.

Plan your journey

Pustevny can be reached by cable car, bicycle, on foot, by bus or by car. You can choose how to get there according to your preferred mode of transport. Check the cable car or bus timetable in advance; if travelling by car, take the road conditions into account.
