Nový Hrozenkov offers very different things to discover: the Na Stanoch natural swimming pool, a memorial in a characteristic log house, and several options for routes and winter sports. These highlights are not interchangeable when planning your trip: at the natural swimming pool, the facilities on site matter; walking routes vary in length and difficulty; and the ski area adds a winter focus. This makes it easier to decide which side of the town best suits your stay.
Na Stanoch: lake, beach and water jumps
At the heart of the Na Stanoch natural swimming pool is an artificial lake covering 9.5 hectares. Locally, it is also called Balaton or Kačák. Both names refer to the same lake, not two different bodies of water. The site has grass and sandy beaches, changing rooms, showers, toilets, a children's playground and a beach volleyball court. This makes for a combination of beach, practical facilities, and play and sports activities.
The site also has an artificial ramp for acrobatic water jumps on skis and boards. This offers a different focus from the beach and playground: the ramp is dedicated to a sporting discipline involving jumps over water. Individual facilities may change; if changing rooms or showers are important to you, for example, check the current situation before your visit.
Culture in the log house and exhibition
The Antonín Strnadel Memorial is housed in a characteristic log house from the Valašsko region dating from 1835. Pastoral farming is another topic: an exhibition presents mountain pastures where sheep have been kept for generations, as well as traditional, in some cases unique, and now nearly forgotten pastoral farming tools. This brings together two distinct cultural perspectives: the memorial's actual building and the working world of pastoral farming. The mountain pastures used over generations give the exhibition a historical dimension; the tools add a practical perspective on this way of life.
Routes for different distances and terrain
The brochures “Z Hrozenkova do Hrozenkova” offer seven circular routes of varying lengths and difficulty for walkers, cyclists and families with children. They are a starting point for weighing up route length and difficulty. The information thus provides two specific points of reference to help you choose, without making all the circular routes the same length or equally demanding.
The Rokling route tips present a different kind of route: they include 20 ravine or streambed routes in the surrounding area, four of them directly in Nový Hrozenkov. The number of routes refers to the selection in the surrounding area; the four directly in town are one part of it. While the circular routes are described by their varying lengths and levels of difficulty, the Rokling selection focuses on routes through ravines and streambeds. This lets you distinguish between these different points of reference when choosing a route.
Winter sports in Vranča
The Nový Hrozenkov–Vranča ski area lies at an altitude of 500 to 670 metres and offers eight ski runs with a total length of 5.8 kilometres. The elevation range, number of runs and total length give a concrete overview of the area and distinguish this winter sports option from the circular and ravine routes. As operations and conditions can change with the season, check the latest information before setting out.
