The Janovský potok flows through a large part of Janová’s built-up area and joins the Vsetínská Bečva in the center of the village. The landscape alternates between pastures and woodland, as well as long, narrow valleys and ridge sections with wide views of the surrounding area. A considerable part of the cadastral area lies within the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area. The landscape and village setting thus offer different starting points for a stay.

Hiking Trails with Different Destinations

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Janová to U Karolů, a group of old Wallachian wooden houses, after about three kilometers. The trail offers uninterrupted views of the ridge of the Vsetínské vrchy and the border mountains of the Javorníky. Another yellow-marked hiking trail leads from the Hořansko valley through the forest to Vsetín. Occasional views into the Janová–Hořansko and Vsetín–Jasenice valleys are part of the route.

The two trails differ in both their destinations and the views described: the route to U Karolů connects the hike with a group of historic wooden houses and uninterrupted views of two mountain ranges. The route from Hořansko to Vsetín goes through the forest and offers occasional views into two valleys. The destination and views may help you choose between the hikes.

Local History and Crafts

Several buildings in Janová are associated with specific dates. The cemetery chapel was built in 1890, and the old bell tower dates from 1891. The new bell tower was built in 1994; its bell was added thanks to a fundraising collection among the residents of Janová. The dates show different stages in the area’s building history, while the collection records the residents’ involvement in acquiring the bell.

The carved entrance to the cemetery chapel was completed in 2002, following the original design by master builder Michal Urbánek. The memorial to local history also has a clear historical context: it was erected in 1938 in honor of 27 local men who had fallen on the battlefields of the First World War. The chapel and memorial represent different themes—the area’s architectural history and remembrance of the fallen.

Local crafts offer another historical perspective. In the 19th century, Janová was known for making Houně wool blankets and high cloth slippers. The history of textile and footwear production thus complements the area’s architectural and commemorative history.

Cycling and Getting There

Janová offers opportunities for mountain bike trips. The Bečva Cycle Path is suitable for cycling, inline skating and walking; inline skaters can use selected sections. Alongside the yellow-marked hiking trails, visitors can also consider cycling and other ways of using the Bečva route.

Janová is the second stop on railway line 282 between Vsetín and Velké Karlovice. Please check the current timetable for specific departures.
