Marked trails cross Osvetimany, while St. Havel’s Baroque church, the rocks of the Chřiby and seasonal activities give a stay a variety of focuses. When planning, you can choose from hikes to named destinations, local history, cycling and winter activities. The route details and specific features help distinguish the individual options.
Hiking Trails and Rocks in the Chřiby
Yellow-, green- and blue-marked hiking trails pass through Osvetimany. The yellow-marked trail reaches Sv. Kliment after 5 km and Cimburk after 7.5 km. Another 7 km hiking route leads via Hora sv. Kliment and Kazatelna to the ruins of Cimburk Castle. If you plan by waypoints, you’ll find named stops along the way; if you compare distances, you can use the distances given for each destination.
Around Osvetimany, the Chřiby are made up of durable sandstone, with numerous peaks, rock formations and ridges. The Osvětimanské skály are several rock blocks known to locals as Čertovky. A well-trodden footpath through mature trees leads to them. Zikmundova skála offers a different view of the landscape: from its flat summit, you can see across a large part of the Chřiby. The rock blocks, wooded path and viewpoint each offer nature enthusiasts a distinct experience.
The Osvětimany Reservoir is also nearby, in the valley of the Klimentský potok. Its water surface covers 10.5 ha and is suitable for swimming, leisurely canoe trips and fishing. This gives you options for waterside activities as well as hikes.
Church, History and Tradition
The Baroque Church of St. Havel stands above Osvetimany and is a historic landmark more than 300 years old. Inside the church is a twelve-stop organ made by organ builder Karel Neusser in 1889. The building and the organ offer two specific points of interest for exploring local architectural and craft history.
The traditional havelské hody s právem festival is held annually in the first half of October. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the specific date. The history of the folk costume is also part of local heritage: Osvetimany’s historical costume was classified as a podhorácký costume and has not been preserved.
Another historic destination nearby is Hradisko sv. Klimenta. This site from the Great Moravian period is associated with Cyril and Methodius and is freely accessible year-round. Check local access conditions before setting out.
Cycling and Seasonal Winter Sports
The Podchřibská cycling route No. 8 is a 36.5 km circular route classified as easy and suitable for road and trekking bikes. It starts and ends in Osvetimany. Its set length and circular format make it a clearly defined cycling option alongside the hiking trails.
Ski Park Osvetimany rents ski and snowboard equipment and offers lessons for complete beginners, children and advanced skiers; lesson availability may depend on the season. The ski and snowboard slope is 400 m long, with a vertical drop of 98 m. As operating details can change seasonally, check current availability before a winter trip.
