Košíky lies in a valley at the foot of the Chřiby Hills. The many hiking trails in the surrounding area make outdoor activities an obvious focus; at the same time, the original settlement layout is still visible in the older parts of the village. This makes it easy to plan a stay that combines the landscape with local history.

Hiking trails and activities in the surrounding area

There are many hiking trails in the surrounding area. The area is of seasonal interest to mushroom pickers, and geocaching is another possible activity. Each offers a different focus: hiking is all about the trails, mushroom picking depends on the season, and geocaching involves searching the terrain. You can plan your time around what you would like to do outdoors.

One specific occasion for a hike was the Zdeňka Sedláčka March. Its eighth edition took place on 21 October 2023, organised by the Czech Tourist Club from Uherské Hradiště. The 5.5-kilometre route ran from Košíky to Paseky through the Chřiby Hills. The documented route included the Košíkovské Rocks and then the Pod Smrkovů spring. Check whether and when another edition will take place before making plans.

A cycling route also passes through Košíky and then climbs to the Paseky signpost. Check the route conditions before setting off.

A village with a history

Košíky was founded in the mid-17th century by a Count of Rottal as a linear settlement. This original settlement layout is still visible in the older parts of the village. A linear settlement is laid out lengthwise; here, the historic period of its founding is connected with a layout that remains visible in the village today.

Local landmarks include the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, dating from 1880, and a sculpture of Saint Hubert in the centre of Košíky. The Boží muka wayside shrine stands at the edge of the forest and dates from 1860. These sites differ both in location and in date: the chapel and the wayside shrine date from different years, while the Hubert sculpture stands out for its central location.

The municipal museum is at Košíky 117. If you would like to include it in your stay, check the current visiting arrangements before you go.

Plan your stay

When looking for a holiday apartment in Košíky, you can first decide what you want to focus on: are you mainly interested in the hiking trails and activities in the surrounding area, or particularly in the village’s history? Both themes can be part of your stay. If you plan to visit the museum or attend a possible future edition of the march, check the current visiting arrangements or dates in advance.
