Kněžpole lies on the left bank of the Morava River, in the broad Dolnomoravský úval basin. The river forms the natural western boundary of Kněžpole’s cadastral area. The Kněžpolský les floodplain forest stretches between the village and the Morava River. This offers several perspectives for planning a trip: the floodplain landscape and protected areas, the history of St. Anne’s Church, and a sports complex with several facilities.
Floodplain landscape and protected areas
Kněžpolský les is a 333-hectare floodplain forest between Kněžpole and the Morava River. The landscape can therefore be viewed both in terms of the immediate relationship between the village and the forest and within the wider geographical context of the cadastral area. The Trnovec Nature Reserve lies within Kněžpole’s cadastral area. The Kanada Nature Reserve is also located there, about 1.3 kilometres west of Kněžpole, and consists of a severed branch of the Morava River.
Kanada was formed in the 1930s when the Morava River was regulated and covers 18.7303 hectares. It protects endangered aquatic and wetland flora and fauna typical of this habitat. For Trnovec, the management plan for 2024 to 2033 provides for the preservation of a structurally diverse hardwood floodplain forest and species-rich floodplain meadows. These habitats provide favourable conditions for endangered plant and animal species. The protected areas have different focuses: Kanada is dedicated to aquatic and wetland species, while Trnovec protects floodplain forest and meadows.
Early spring is considered the best time to visit Trnovec, when herbs in the forest understorey bloom and grey herons nest. If these seasonal natural features are a key factor in your trip, plan your visit for this period.
The history of St. Anne’s Church
St. Anne’s Church was built in 1856 as a new chapel dedicated to Saint Anne. It was enlarged in 1996–1997 and consecrated as a church in October 1997. More than a century thus separates the construction of the chapel from its later consecration; the enlargement marks a distinct stage in its development. The building’s history can therefore be viewed in several clearly separated periods.
Sports facilities in the village
The sports complex in Kněžpole has two illuminated tennis courts with synthetic surfaces and a practice tennis wall. There is also an illuminated multifunctional area with a synthetic surface for various sports activities, as well as an adjacent beach volleyball court. For travellers interested in sports, the facilities offer different options: tennis, various activities on the multifunctional area, and beach volleyball. The grass training area is shared with volunteer firefighters, who regularly hold firefighting sport competitions there.
