Horní Němčí offers different points of interest to consider when planning a trip: the cadastral area includes protected meadows and forest, while the church and Myslivna shape the picture in the village centre. There are also customs tied to specific seasons, a cycle route in the regional network, a tourist-marked trail and local sports facilities. This gives you a chance to decide in advance whether you would like to focus on nature, architectural history, traditions or activity.
Meadows, forest and protected landscape
The “Drahy” Nature Reserve covers 15.0797 hectares of highly varied pastures and meadows in the cadastral area of Horní Němčí. The “Bahulské Jámy” Natural Monument covers 14.0908 hectares of flower-rich White Carpathian meadows, also in the cadastral area. The areas are similar in size but differ in their described character: varied pastures and meadows define Drahy, while Bahulské Jámy is characterised by flower-rich meadows of the White Carpathians. This comparison gives you a concrete introduction to the village’s landscape features.
The “Uvezené” Natural Monument adds another type of landscape: it protects a 14.39-hectare oak-hornbeam forest in the cadastral area. “Za lesem” protects part of the Lesná pastures, including a wetland depression, also in the cadastral area of Horní Němčí. The range therefore extends from open pastures and flower-rich meadows to forest and a damp depression. If you are comparing nature-related sites, it is worth looking at these specific differences rather than viewing the protected areas as a uniform landscape.
Cycle route and tourist marking
Cycle Route No. 5052 is part of the regional cycle network. Its stated route runs through Hradčovice, Dolní Němčí, Slavkov and Horní Němčí to Velká Javořina. A tourist-marked trail also leads from the centre of Horní Němčí to Velká Javořina. The two descriptions offer different points of reference: for the cycle route, the number and sequence of named places are helpful; for the marked trail, the starting point in the village centre and the destination are given. This helps you distinguish the cycle route within the regional network from the trail starting in Horní Němčí.
Village character, history and traditions
The Church of St Peter and St Paul is a cultural monument and shapes the centre of Horní Němčí. The Myslivna, also called the “hájenka”, is another prominent building in the centre. The current building was newly constructed as a single-storey house in 1854; between 1921 and 1925, it was remodelled into its present form. The two dates mark different stages in the building’s history: its construction and the later remodelling.
In Horní Němčí, the central mound and parts of the ditch and rampart remain from a motte-and-bailey castle dating to the 13th century. The village’s history thus includes both older traces of the castle and the much later building phases of the Myslivna. The central church and the Myslivna are also key landmarks for anyone interested in the village’s architectural character.
Traditions also provide a seasonal reference point for planning your trip. The “hody” festival tradition is celebrated in Horní Němčí during the last week of June. Opening the well-known spring in springtime is also a tradition. These offer two distinct seasonal reference points: spring and the end of June. If a particular celebration is important to your trip, check the dates of the relevant events.
The “Horněmčanský kroj” is also part of the local cultural identity. It belongs to the “kroj nivnický” tradition and is distinguished by its particular variety. Together with the church, the Myslivna and seasonal customs, the traditional costume offers another way to explore local culture, though these themes do not all relate to the same period or type of tradition.
Sports facilities in the village
The TJ Sokol Horní Němčí complex has a multi-purpose sports court with an artificial surface, where traditional sports can be played. The sports complex in Horní Němčí includes a children’s playground, a 16-hole mini-golf course and six outdoor exercise machines. Alongside the landscape and local history, these specific sports and activity options are also part of the selection when planning your stay around a particular theme.
