Protected nature, cycling and hiking trails, and sites of cultural and historical interest are at the heart of Břestek. The Břestecká skála Natural Monument, trails through the village and destinations in Chabaně offer different ways to enjoy your stay.

Natural Monument and Species

The Břestecká skála Natural Monument lies about 1.5 km northwest of Břestek. It protects a significant geomorphological formation, with relict populations of Scots pine and original Carpathian oak-hornbeam woodland. Rare species are also found in the protected area, including the stag beetle, white woodland hyacinth and cornelian cherry. At Břestecká skála, a distinctive landform, woodland and a variety of animal and plant species come together. Nature enthusiasts will find more than a single feature here: the woodland vegetation and the species mentioned are also part of what defines the protected area.

Cycling and Hiking

Regional cycling route 5050 runs through Břestek along a 26 km route. Cycling route 5150, the “Velkomoravská poutní cesta,” also passes through the village and is considered suitable for all cyclists. Conditions and signage on both routes may change. Cycling route 5159 offers a different way: it runs from Buchlovice through Břestek to Břestecká skála. Its final unpaved section can be difficult in wet weather. The routes offer different points to consider when planning: route 5050 has a stated distance, route 5150 is described as generally suitable, and route 5159 specifies a destination along with a note about its final section.

The route from Břestek to Břestecká skála follows the road towards Chabaně to a junction with red and green trail markers. Trail markings and access conditions may change. There is also a climbing sector at Břestecká skála, with routes that are predominantly bouldering-style. Before visiting to climb, check any restrictions and seasonal access. Hikers and climbers should therefore bear different things in mind: access to the rock formation on the one hand, and conditions at the climbing sector on the other.

Chabaně and Building History

In Chabaně, a district of Břestek, stands a giant sequoia, the “Sekvojovec obrovský.” The long-distance “Cyrilometodějská stezka” trail also passes through Chabaně. The trail was added to the Council of Europe’s Cultural Routes list in 2021; conditions and signage may change. The district thus brings together two distinct points of interest: a striking tree and a long-distance trail with cultural significance.

Building history adds another dimension to the nature and trails. A folk architecture building in Břestek has a historic wine cellar dating from the 19th century. The village is also home to an architecturally notable neo-Gothic building from 1888. These two architectural highlights offer another focus for your stay: architectural history alongside landscape and outdoor activities.

A Special Activity

The launch field for balloon rides is right next to Penzion BalonCentrum Břestek. Whether a balloon ride can take place depends on operating conditions. If you would like to include this activity in your travel plans, bear in mind that it is subject to the conditions at the time.
