Nový Světlov Castle, the historic Potok House No. 302 and trails of very different lengths give a stay in Bojkovice several distinct points of interest. This makes it possible to include castle history, traditional folk architecture and hiking in your travel plans—from a short educational trail to longer circular routes.

Castle History and Exhibition

Nový Světlov Castle dates back to the 15th century. It was later renovated several times, most recently in the Tudor Gothic style. When visiting, it is worth viewing this architectural history as a succession of changes: the castle’s 15th-century origins and its later Tudor Gothic design represent different phases in its history.

The Muzeum Bojkovska displays some of the original furnishings from Nový Světlov in a castle exhibition. The exhibition is supplemented with items from Návojná Castle. It therefore includes both furnishings from Nový Světlov and objects from another castle. Exhibition contents may change; check what is currently on display before your visit.

Educational Trail Between the Centre and the Castle

An educational trail connects the centre of Bojkovice with Nový Světlov Castle and is suitable for hiking. It has five stops, is 656 metres long and has an elevation change of about 50 metres. This makes it a short, clearly defined route between the town centre and the castle; the elevation change is another detail you can take into account when planning.

To put Bojkovice’s trails into perspective, it is helpful to compare the educational trail with the longer circular routes: the trail is less than a kilometre long, while the circular routes in the Bojkovsko area are 16 and 24 kilometres long. These are considerably different distances and therefore suit different kinds of hiking day.

Folk Architecture and Visit Arrangements

The historic Potok House No. 302 is a particularly valuable example of traditional folk architecture. The building is a clay-walled residential house without an outbuilding. It was built from unfired bricks on a rubble-stone foundation; local traditional materials and building techniques are also part of its construction. The house can therefore be described not only by its age or use, but also by its materials and construction methods.

Visits to the house can be arranged on weekdays directly through the Muzeum Bojkovska or by phone. Arrange your visit before travelling. St. Lawrence Church has different visiting arrangements: the museum can organise guided tours by prior telephone appointment.

There is also a striking historical detail in the cemetery in Bojkovice: it contains two hexagonal towers dating from the 16th century, known as Tetaurky. One houses a lapidarium; the other contains sculptures depicting the Garden of Gethsemane. The two towers can thus be distinguished by their different contents.

Circular Routes and Na Skalce Lookout Tower

The Bojkovsko area offers a long circular route of 24 kilometres and a shorter circular route of 16 kilometres. There are ten information panels in total. These routes are considerably longer than the educational trail between the centre and the castle; their stated distances can help you choose a suitable route length for your stay.

The Na Skalce lookout tower near Bojkovice was built in August and September 2011 at the initiative of the KBS-SOS civic association, with support from the investor MěÚ Bojkovice. The tower is made of larch and spruce wood. It stands in the Skalka area, on land belonging to Mr Juračka, about one kilometre northeast of the village of Krhov. It is another named point of interest in the Bojkovice area, alongside the historic buildings and the trails described here.

Travel planning offers a clear choice based on your interests and the distance you want to cover: the castle and exhibition provide a cultural and historical focus, Potok House showcases traditional building methods, and the trails range from a short educational trail to longer circular routes. When preparing for your trip, pay particular attention to the necessary arrangements for visits to the house and guided tours of the churches.
