Church and local history

The Baroque Church of St. Wenceslas stands on a gentle rise in the northeastern part of Loukov. It is a tangible cultural landmark that helps define the village. Hiking trails directly in Loukov and various cycling connections also provide starting points for planning. Local history, trails and landscape offer different points of focus, which you can weigh according to your interests. This makes it possible to explore Loukov through both its history and opportunities for walking and cycling.

The first written records of Loukov date from the first half of the 14th century; the Baroque Church of St. Wenceslas dates from 1679. The early records therefore precede the dated church building by several centuries and mark a different historical milestone. Another trace of local history is the “Dub” memorial oak: it is approximately 400 years old and also marks the cadastral boundary between Loukov and Libosváry.

Landscape and trails

In the wider region, Kelčský Javorník, at 868 metres, is the highest mountain in the Hostýnské vrchy. Loukov lies in the foothills of the mountain, at the transition between forested areas and fields. The mountain’s elevation should therefore be distinguished from the local landscape: the elevation figure refers to Kelčský Javorník, while the foothills and the transition from forest to fields describe Loukov.

Hiking trails run directly through the village. Cycling options vary depending on your destination and the type of route. Cycling Route No. 5037 runs from Chvalčov to Loukov; a newly built cycle path leads from Loukov to its district of Libosváry. The circular cycling route through Loukov and Libosváry is approximately 20 kilometres long and leads back to Bystřice pod Hostýnem. When choosing a route, it is helpful to distinguish between a connection to a destination and a circuit: Route No. 5037 leads to Loukov, the new path leads to the district, while the circuit, at approximately 20 kilometres, returns to Bystřice pod Hostýnem.

Getting here and local amenities

A route reaches Loukov railway station; from there, trains can be taken towards Kroměříž or Valašské Meziříčí. If you are travelling by train, check the suitable connection for your travel date before setting off. Loukov also has a sports complex with a tennis court, another local option for those interested in sports.

Farm-fresh products

Farma Loukov offers goat’s cheese as well as cold kefir made from goat’s and cow’s milk. This gives you a choice of two different products: cheese and a cold dairy drink. Purchases directly from the farm are possible by prior arrangement; plan your purchase with Farma Loukov in advance.
