In Zlobice, a church built in the late 19th century, examples of sacred art and finds from prehistoric settlement periods come together. The setting also includes a landscape shaped by gently sloping terrain and the protected Troják area. For travellers interested in cultural history, this offers several perspectives: sacred architecture, early traces of settlement, rural theatre and specific geographical features.

Church, Presbytery and Sacred Monuments

The Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius was built between 1897 and 1899 to a design by the architect Leodegard Slovák of Kroměříž. The construction dates and the architect’s full name place the church in a specific historical context. The associated presbytery is itself one of Zlobice’s landmarks. Since 1916, the Solanský Mill has stood beside the presbytery; it included a small power station. The mill adds an economic history perspective to the sacred focus.

The sacred heritage also includes several stone crosses and other small religious monuments across the municipality. Zlobice is also home to a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes and a wooden cross. The range thus extends from the church and its presbytery to smaller forms of religious art and remembrance. The examples differ in form and scale, but all belong to the local cultural history.

Archaeological Traces and Landscape

The settlement history of the municipal area began much earlier than these buildings. Archaeological finds provide evidence of settlement as early as the Neolithic, as well as the Bronze and Iron Ages. One specific find comes from Hliník: a vessel from the Lusatian culture was unearthed there at a depth of approximately one metre. The timeline therefore stretches from prehistoric settlement periods to the years when the church was built; the vessel adds an example associated with a named culture.

As a point of geographical reference, the main road runs through Zlobice from Kroměříž towards Věžky and onward to Morkovice. A side road leads through the village towards Popovice. The main road names a sequence of places, while the side road indicates another direction. The Věžecký potok stream flows through the built-up area and has several right-bank tributaries. Most of the built-up area lies on gently sloping terrain in the Litenčické pahorkatina hills. The southwestern part of the municipal area lies within the Troják Site of European Importance, a specially protected area. The stream and terrain relate to the built-up area, while Troják is in the southwest of the municipal area.

Theatre History and Remembrance

Zlobice’s cultural history is not recorded solely in its buildings. The Ferdyšova Theatre Company was founded in 1989 in Bojanovice to preserve rural traditions. It developed a village theatre and staged numerous plays and fairy tales at an inn in Bojanovice, based on original or adapted scripts. This tradition of historical performances thus complements the local monuments with a cultural practice shaped by written texts, adaptations and fairy-tale themes.

On Větrák Hill, which separates Bojanovice from Zlobice, stands a monument to the fallen of the First World War, erected in 1920. A statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus crowns the monument. This represents another form of remembrance: the focus is a monument with a clearly stated purpose and a religious figure.
