A trip to Kostelec U Holešova can bring together cultural history, archaeology, nature and sport as distinct themes. The Church of St. Peter and Paul, built in 1735, and the group of burial mounds in Kostelecký les offer two different historical perspectives. The pilgrimage site of Svatá studynka, the oak tree “Král lesa” and the multi-purpose sports complex add further specific places and activities to explore.
Church and Architectural History
The Church of St. Peter and Paul was built in 1735. During its reconstruction in 1840, it received a new vault, as well as a music gallery and a sacristy. The late Baroque organ was transferred to the church in 1833 from a monastery in Brno that had been dissolved. It was therefore added after the church was built, but before the 1840 reconstruction. These terms refer to different features: a vault is a vaulted ceiling, a music gallery is a raised area for musicians, and a sacristy is an adjoining room used to prepare for worship.
Archaeology, Nature and Historic Sites
Burial Mound Group VII in Kostelecký les comprises 30 burial mounds; at least 28 of them have been investigated. Cremation burials with extensive ceramic grave goods, as well as bronze finds, were discovered there. These include pins, rings, beads and tubes. A cremation burial is a form of burial in which the dead were cremated. This historical focus differs from that of the church: the burial mounds concern burials and grave goods, while the church is associated with its construction phases and furnishings.
Hrádek is the site of an abandoned medieval fortress, about 1.4 km northeast of Kostelec U Holešova. The oak “Král lesa” stands in Kostelecký les, within the cadastral area of Kostelec U Holešova. It is protected as a natural monument and was designated a memorial tree in 2009. The sites mentioned represent different periods: an abandoned medieval fortress, the church built from 1735 onward, and a memorial tree designated in 2009.

Svatá studynka is a pilgrimage site by a chapel with a prepared spring. Religious ceremonies have been held there for centuries; tourists also visit the site to relax. As a route option, “From Kostelec u Holešova to the Holý kopec transmitter” is suitable for families with children.
