Rusava lies in the Hostýnské vrchy Nature Park. The Rusavské chodníčky nature trail brings together topics from the landscape and natural world with the history of the original inhabitants. In the centre of the village are a stone Evangelical Church of the Holy Trinity and the Muzeum Rusava. Koupaliště Rusava and the ski area offer different, seasonal activities. This gives visitors a choice of nature, culture and active pursuits for their trip.

A nature trail through the landscape

Established in 2007 with support from the Zlínský kraj, the nature trail has seven stops. They provide information about the landscape and nature around Rusava and the Hostýnské vrchy, Rusava’s original inhabitants, and the local flora and fauna. The trail thus combines natural history and local history in one route.

The Rusavské chodníčky run above Rusava, along the edge of pastures and meadows near Skalný and Klapinov. Visitors interested in nature and the history of the people of Rusava will find both topics side by side along this route. The places named give the trail a specific connection to the landscape, without separating nature from local history.

Swimming and winter sports

Koupaliště Rusava has a large, 43-metre-long pool with a slide and water fountains. Solar collectors heat the pool water. Access to the swimming pool and its individual facilities is step-free. Seasonal opening hours may vary. If step-free access is important for your plans, confirm the specific arrangements in advance.

Lyžařské středisko Rusava is located directly in Rusava. Two drag lifts serve runs for beginners and active winter sports enthusiasts. Skiing is also available in the evening under floodlights. Seasonal offerings include ski and snowboard equipment rental, as well as the Eskimák ski school, which provides ski and snowboard lessons. Availability may change; check operating details before your trip.

Church, museum and historic buildings

The stone Evangelical Church of the Holy Trinity is in the centre of Rusava. Muzeum Rusava is located in the municipal office building and shows what the village looked like in past centuries. Its exhibits include embroidered Wallachian folk costumes, old tools, school equipment and wooden grain bins hollowed out from tree trunks. The museum offers a glimpse into different aspects of life in Rusava in the past.

Visits to Muzeum Rusava are possible by prior arrangement by phone or email. Arrange your visit in advance. Kašparova vila is a well-preserved example of folk architecture in Rusava. The noted painter and illustrator Adolf Kašpar had it built for himself and his family in 1932. At Křídlo Castle, parts of the ground plan, old surrounds of the narrow gate and the remains of the castle tower have survived.

Getting there and planning your trip

The starting point at the Rusava, Kino tourist signpost can be reached by car and by regular bus services from Kroměříž, Holešov and Bystřice pod Hostýnem. As timetables may change, check the bus connection for your travel date. It is also worth bearing the seasonal offerings in mind when planning: swimming pool operations may vary, while the ski area offers winter activities. If you would like to visit the museum, allow time to arrange an appointment in advance.

Rusava therefore offers a range of reasons to visit, and they do not all need to fit into the same season. The nature trail and historic buildings provide different points of interest; the swimming pool and ski area add seasonal activities. Plan your trip around the experiences that matter most to you, and coordinate your bus journey and any museum visit accordingly.
