Pacetluky lies on the border between the fertile Haná region and Záhoří. The Kostelecký Forest, which reaches right up to the village, various cycling routes and traces from several historical periods offer different perspectives on a stay here. You can discover the village via its forest trails, the routes towards Karlovice and Holešov, or its local history.
Forest and trails around Pacetluky
The Kostelecký Forest is an 800-hectare woodland rich in wildlife that reaches right up to Pacetluky. The Koteleckým lesem nature trail runs through the area and is 23.8 kilometres long. This specific distance can help you gauge the length of a planned hike.
Nearby are the ruins of Hrádek, a former Gothic fortress; only the moat remains. Also in the Kostelecký Forest is Zámeček: the former hunting lodge was built in the mid-18th century and now serves as a forester’s house. The two places represent different historical traces: the moat remains at Hrádek, while Zámeček now has a forestry function.
A winter hike leads from Kostelec u Holešova to Líšná. It follows forest trails to viewpoints overlooking the municipalities of Pacetluky and Prusinovice. Pacetluky is visible from the viewpoints along this route; the described trail itself runs from Kostelec u Holešova to Líšná.
Two cycling routes with different courses
A popular route among cyclists passes through Pacetluky, follows a forest road through the Kostelecký Forest and continues to a municipal road from Karlovice. Another cycling route follows a paved field track via Bořenovice to Holešov, which is part of cycling route 5033. The two options differ in specific ways: one passes through the forest and connects to the municipal road from Karlovice, while the other follows a paved track via Bořenovice towards Holešov.
Local history, chapel and traditions
The first written mention of Pacetluky dates back to 1131. Archaeological finds also reach far back in time: stone hammers, axes and flint knives discovered in the fields of Pacetluky show that the area was already inhabited in prehistoric times. Burial mounds in the Kostelecký Forest date from the Neolithic and Bronze Age. The finds in the fields and the burial mounds in the forest thus point to different types of evidence and prehistoric periods.
Pacetluky has a chapel dating from 1946, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. Local crosses include one from 1922 on the cadastral boundary between Pacetluky and Prusinovice, and another from 1909 opposite the school building in Pacetluky. The two crosses were restored in 2014 and 2015. Another cross stands by the road halfway between Pacetluky and Prusinovice.
Local lore is also part of the village’s character: according to tradition, two peaks in the Kostelecký Forest are named Kača and Tereza. The Pacetlucké hodové slavnosti is a recurring two-day village festival that offers a further glimpse into local festive traditions.
