Button-making, religious art and traces of mining in the forest offer different ways to explore Předín’s local history. The Na Kobylí hlavu nature trail adds a route that begins in the town and ends in Markvartice. For planning, it is worth distinguishing between the two: the museum is open during special municipal events and visits can be arranged by phone; the trail has a different endpoint.
Button-making at the Malé Předínské muzeum
The Malé Předínské muzeum opens during special municipal events. Visits can be arranged by phone. If you are coming specifically to see the exhibition, arrange your visit by phone or plan to visit during one of these events.
The button-making exhibition includes mother-of-pearl brooches, buckles, hairpins, ashtrays, necklaces and caskets inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The selection ranges from personal accessories to household and storage items. This offers insight into the subject through a variety of objects, rather than focusing solely on the production of buttons.
Button production in Předín finally ceased at the end of September 1991. This date places the exhibition in its historical context: it offers a way to explore a chapter of local craftsmanship that has come to an end.
Church Art and History
A patronage of the church in Předín is mentioned in 1366. The Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dates from the mid-18th century and is now located by the Church of St. Wenceslas. Together, these historical references span the period from an early ecclesiastical date to a later work of art.
The stone wayside shrine above Předín is a high-quality work of craftsmanship from the 17th century. Compared with the statue of Nepomuk, it belongs to an earlier period. The shrine and statue also represent different forms of sacred art and add distinct historical reference points to the town’s history.
Mining Traces and the Nature Trail
The Hory–Štůlně complex consists of mining pits in a forest within the cadastral area of Předín. This adds mining as another distinct feature of the landscape, alongside craftsmanship and church art. Those interested in the town’s history beyond exhibits and historical art will find a different focus here: traces of mining in the forest.
The Na Kobylí hlavu nature trail begins in Předín and ends in Markvartice. It passes through the Křižanovská vrchovina and over Kobylí hlava, the second-highest mountain in the Třebíčsko area. Its start and endpoint make the route a connection between two places, while the landscape and mountain give it an additional regional dimension. When planning your walk, bear in mind that Markvartice is the endpoint: the trail does not loop back to Předín.
