Odunec combines local history with opportunities for excursions and cycling: the Chapel of the Holy Family was first consecrated in 1910, and the surrounding area is well suited to walking and cycling trips to castles, châteaux and fortified manor houses. Cyclists can also choose between two routes that differ considerably in length and course. Before your trip, you can decide whether local cultural history, the landscape or a particular cycling route should shape your stay.
Chapel and local leisure spots
The Chapel of the Holy Family in Odunec was first consecrated in 1910 and has recently been renovated. The year refers to the first consecration, not the year the chapel was built, keeping its historical context precise. If the building’s condition matters to your plans, check it again on site, as it may change. Odunec is also home to a former Baroque manor house. It adds another aspect of local history to the chapel’s religious significance.
Near the chapel is an enclosed, freely accessible children’s playground. The Obora Recreation Area has a grassy sports field near the municipal pond. If you plan to use either facility, check its current condition on site, as municipal facilities may change.
Excursions into the landscape and local culture
The countryside around Odunec is picturesque and invites you to explore. The settlement of Hubertův dvůr, which belongs to the municipality of Odunec, offers views of the surrounding landscape. The area is also a starting point for walking and cycling trips to nearby castles, châteaux and fortified manor houses. Each offers a different focus: Hubertův dvůr is known for its landscape views, while the other destinations highlight the area’s cultural history.
Two cycling routes compared
The 12.6 km cycling route around the Dalešice Reservoir is in the vicinity of Odunec and is classified as easy. It connects with cycling routes 401, 5110, 5107 and 5175. Check the conditions for this route before setting off. A second route, “From Dalešice via Lipník,” passes through Odunec. A route description from 2009 gives its length as 38.48 km, classifies it as easy and lists trekking bikes as suitable. Directly compared, this route is more than three times as long as the 12.6 km tour; one also goes around the reservoir, while the other passes through Odunec. As the surface and signage along the longer route may have changed, check both before your ride. Distance, difficulty rating and route answer different planning questions: the distance shows the overall length, the rating gives an indication of difficulty, and the route sets the reservoir or Odunec as its point of reference.
