Bohušice lies on the left bank of the Rokytka; the Bohušický rybník is located southwest of the village. The fish-farming pond, which covers about 15 hectares, the chapel with its spring and the history of the château each offer a different focus. There is also a small park by the chapel, with a memorial to local residents who fell in the First World War. For planning purposes, it helps to distinguish between the landscape and fishing opportunities at the pond on the one hand, and architectural and commemorative history on the other. This way, you can decide early which themes you want to shape your stay.
The Bohušický rybník and fishing opportunities
The Bohušický rybník is a fish-farming pond covering about 15 hectares. Fishing is possible on a catch-and-release basis, meaning that caught fish are returned to the water. Currently, fishing is permitted at weekends by prior arrangement with the owner. Confirm the arrangement again before travelling, rather than assuming that fishing will be available spontaneously. This way, you can plan around the actual conditions and avoid mistaking the opportunity for unrestricted access at any time.
The chapel, spring and local tradition
The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius (“Kaple svatých Cyrila a Metoděje”) is a rectangular building with a three-sided apse. It stands on a slight rise in a wooded area. A descending staircase with a stone balustrade leads to a spring, above which the chapel was built. The shape and apse describe the building, while the rise and wooded surroundings indicate its setting.
A marble plaque at the chapel records the oral tradition that Cyril and Methodius preached and baptised at this site around the year 865. The account is therefore presented as a tradition, and the year is approximate. The plaque adds a distinct historical narrative to the architectural details. The memorial in the small park by the chapel offers a different focus: it commemorates local residents who fell in the First World War.
The château’s history in two dates
Construction of the château in Bohušice began in July 1736. An artificial grotto was built in the château garden. After a fire in 1781, the remains of the château were partly demolished and converted into a farmstead. The construction start and the fire provide clear chronological markers; the grotto adds a detail about the garden. Together, these details show both the creation and the later transformation of the château complex.
