Světec Château lies in the northern part of the municipality; the Church of St James the Greater, the chapel in the district of Úpoř and the Pánevní cycling route, which passes through Světec, offer further points of interest. For planning your trip, historic architectural styles and cycling are therefore distinct interests to consider. You can start by deciding which theme matters most to you: architecture, a cycling tour, or both.

Château, Church and Chapel

Světec Château lies north of the village square. It is a two-storey, single-wing Baroque building. Its park is enclosed by a stone perimeter wall and contains several mature trees. The Baroque structure and the layout of the grounds thus sit side by side: the wall and the trees give the park its own character alongside the château’s architecture.

The Church of St James the Greater has Romanesque origins and was later given a Baroque appearance. Its architectural history therefore combines Romanesque origins with a Baroque character. The building has three naves, a five-sided chancel and a roof turret. The three naves divide the church interior; the chancel and roof turret are further features of its design. This means the church can be considered both in terms of its architectural history and its layout.

The former cemetery around the church is now laid out as a park. Its former function and present-day design belong to different periods; this transformation adds another aspect of local history to the church’s architectural history.

Another architectural style can be found in Úpoř, a district of the municipality of Světec. The Neoclassical chapel there dates from the second half of the 19th century. Its gabled roof has a hipped end, and it also has a roof turret. The château, the Baroque-style church and the Neoclassical chapel thus represent different architectural forms. If you are interested in architecture, you can make these differences a cultural focus when planning your trip.

Cycling Route and Art

The Pánevní cycling route passes through Světec and offers a separate point of interest for travellers considering cycling as part of their trip. This sets the route apart from the historic buildings: the focus here is a cycling route, while the buildings offer architectural history and architecture. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore first consider whether culture or cycling is more important to your stay, or whether you would like to include both.

The Vojtěch Preissig Gallery is located in the former parish house in Světec, where art openings are held. Exhibition dates may vary, so check in advance which events fall during your travel dates and what visiting opportunities are available. The gallery’s name refers to Vojtěch Preissig, who was born in Světec near Bílina on 31 July. This adds a biographical connection to the place alongside its architectural themes. If art events are among your travel interests, it is best to include the events calendar in your plans.
