Bořislav combines a protected hilly landscape with monuments whose construction and creation dates range from 1384 to the early 19th century. The Cesta přátelství adds a sculpture trail with a clearly defined route to the historic buildings. For your trip, you can therefore choose between local and architectural history, sculpture and landscape as different areas of focus.
Landscape and settlement
Bořislav is an old Slavic settlement in a hilly, dramatically shaped landscape on a slope, and lies within the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. The landscape is therefore a distinct point of interest alongside the historic buildings. If you would like to combine nature and culture, you can treat these two aspects of the place as different areas of focus for your trip.
Kostel sv. Kateřiny
Kostel sv. Kateřiny is among Bořislav’s state-protected monuments. The church dates back to 1384; the present building was constructed in 1717 and restored in 1820. These dates refer to different phases: the church’s origins, the construction of the present building and a later restoration. Architecturally, it is a rectangular single-nave building with a separate presbytery; the sacristy adjoins it on the south side. With its imposing bell tower, the Baroque church is also a prominent landmark on the E55 route between Teplice and Lovosice.
Rectory, Pietà Column and Calvary Cross
The Baroque rectory is a two-storey building dating from 1733, with a mansard roof. The Baroque sandstone Pietà column, created in 1720, has a different form and stands at its original location on the main road within the municipality. Its Corinthian capital and small sculpture of the Bohosudov Pietà define its artistic details. The comparison can be based on specific features: the rectory is characterised by its number of storeys and roof form, while the column is distinguished by its material, capital and figure.
The stone Calvary cross in the village square dates from 1801. It depicts Christ crucified and Mary Magdalene, as well as a skull entwined by a snake. The two monuments therefore also differ in their imagery: the Pietà as a small sculpture on the column, and the Crucifixion scene with its additional figures and symbols.
Cesta přátelství and cycling routes
The Cesta přátelství is a sculpture trail featuring 14 modern sculptures by Czech and German sculptors. The route runs from Bořislav and Černčice to Bílka, then continues jointly to the foot of Milešovka. This lets you combine a cultural focus with a clearly specified route. Modern sculpture and connections between several places are the main points of interest here.
For cyclists, the municipality provides a document about cycling routes around Bořislav and another about a cycling route between Bořislav and Lovosice. Before your trip, check whether the documents are available.
Culture or sculpture trail?
If you are looking for an apartment in Bořislav, your choice may depend on what you plan to focus on: the church brings together several dated construction phases and a clearly defined floor plan, while the Cesta přátelství features 14 modern sculptures along a named route. Consider whether you would rather focus on historic buildings and imagery or on the sculpture trail. The protected hilly landscape provides a shared connection to nature.
