Zbrašín combines an early historical reference with two clearly distinct routes: a marked hiking route and the Džbánsko cycling route. It is also home to the Zbrašínská pouť, a traditional festival. This gives you several different focuses for planning your trip: history, route details and landscape, or a specific festival date. You can shape your stay around whether you are particularly interested in a medieval resident known by name, marked route sections, landscape features along a cycling route, or a dated event programme.
Early History
The first record of Zbrašín dates from 1358; at that time, the local Vladyka Chotěbor Bažant ze Zbrašína lived there. The former fortress has not survived. The historical focus is therefore on the early reference and the resident known by name; the fortress adds context as a building that no longer exists.
The Džbánsko Cycling Route and Landscape
The Džbánsko cycling route follows cycle route 304 through Zbrašín. For the most part, it runs along paved farm tracks to avoid road traffic, often crossing ridgelines with views of the Bohemian Central Highlands and the Džbán Hills. It also crosses the watershed of the Vltava, Berounka and Ohře rivers. Džbán, in the wider region around Zbrašín, has been a nature park since 1994. The route’s surface, ridgelines and views give it a distinctive landscape profile; the watershed adds a geographical dimension.
Hiking on Marked Sections
The Louny–Jimlín–Pravda hiking route offers a different way to find your bearings. From Louny, a red-marked trail leads to the waterworks at Zbrašín. The route then continues along a blue-marked trail to the junction below Pravda. The change from red to blue divides the described route into two sections. This is a concrete difference to consider when choosing between hiking and cycling: the hiking route is defined by its markings and named waypoints, while Džbánsko is characterised by its paved farm tracks, ridgelines and views.
The Zbrašínská pouť
The Zbrašínská pouť is traditionally held at the summer sports ground in Zbrašín. In 2026, the festival returned after a one-year break; it was scheduled for 18 and 19 July. The 2025 edition’s programme had its own specifically dated highlights: on Saturday, 19 July, it included an evening event with music and socialising from 8 p.m. On Sunday, 20 July, the programme featured an afternoon of further attractions and entertainment for the whole family from 2 p.m. These details relate to the respective editions. If the festival is the reason for your trip, check the dates for the relevant edition.
Which Focus Suits Your Trip?
For a hike, the sequence of red- and blue-marked trails and the named points provide clear guidance. The cycling route, by contrast, can be characterised by its surfaces, ridgelines, views and watershed. The early history offers a cultural connection, while the pouť—with its specific dates—provides a seasonal focus. This lets you decide whether you would like to discover Zbrašín primarily through its history, one of the two routes, or a festival weekend.
