St Martin’s Church, dating from 1501, other monuments and two cycling routes through the village offer different ways to shape a stay in Břvany. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment in Břvany, you can start by deciding whether local history, walks in the countryside or cycling should be the main focus.

Cultural Monuments in the Village

St Martin’s Church is a single-nave Late Gothic building with a square tower. “Single-nave” describes a church with one main nave; the tower is a distinct architectural feature. The church dates from 1501 and was repaired and reconsecrated in 2004. It is located near Břvany’s railway crossing, at the junction of the roads towards Lenešice and Žatec. Its location provides a clear landmark in the village.

The historic village landscape also includes the rural homestead at No. 22, a valuable urban-planning and architectural feature of the historic village structure. Břvany is also home to an 18th-century statue of St John of Nepomuk. Another statue depicts St Roch: it dates from 1932 and was made by H. Kwapil; its pedestal dates from 1811. The gate at house No. 2 is a protected immovable cultural monument. The dates refer to different things: 1811 is the date of the pedestal, 1932 that of the statue of St Roch, and 2004 that of the church’s repair and reconsecration.

Landscape and Walks

The area also has clear points of interest. The municipality of Břvany extends partly into the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area. Near Břvanský vrch, which rises 302 metres above sea level, are scattered basalt boulders known as “Kamenní mužičci”. The countryside around Břvany offers numerous excursions and walks. Alongside the buildings in the village, the surrounding landscape is another option to make the focus of your stay.

Compare Cycling Routes by Distance

Two cycling routes pass through Břvany. The Mostecký Circuit is 35 kilometres long, runs entirely on roads, has only gentle gradients and is suitable for cross-country, trekking and mountain bikes. The 55-kilometre Lounský Circuit through the České středohoří I also passes through the village. The listed distances differ by 20 kilometres, so you can compare route length first, rather than your personal riding time. For the Lounský Circuit, check the signs on site.

Getting Here and Holiday Apartments

When looking for a holiday apartment, your preferred way of travelling can be a practical first filter: Břvany can be reached by bus and train, and seven road routes also lead into the village from Počerady, Bitozeves (Žatec), Vrbka, Lenešice, Hrádek (Raná), Milá and Bečov. Check bus and train timetables for your travel dates. If travelling by road, it’s a good idea to check the current road conditions.
