When looking for a holiday apartment in Lubenec, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: exploring nature, cycling and climbing alongside local history and stained glass. There are specific places to visit, from the nature trail and rock formations to churches and works of art with documented dates.

Landscape, nature trail and active exploration

The Naučná stezka okolím Lubence nature trail leads through the picturesque landscape of the Lubenec region. Nine information boards cover local history, geology, and native wildlife and plant life. If these subjects interest you, the trail combines information about nature and local history. Check its condition locally before planning to hike it.

Ruský kopec, a registered significant landscape feature and botanically valuable area, lies southeast of Lubenec. Liščí skály is about two kilometres southeast of the town. The granite rock formations are characterised by natural vegetation. These sites offer two distinct natural features to explore: the botanical value of Ruský kopec and the rock formations at Liščí skály.

For a longer bike ride, consider the Okruh kolem Lubence route. It is 67.2 kilometres long, of moderate difficulty, and described as suitable for road and trekking bikes. Its length, difficulty and recommended bike types give you concrete criteria for planning. As route conditions and signage can change, check them before setting out.

At the Liščí skály climbing area above Lubenec, routes are equipped with bolts as needed and marked with arrows; the Lubenecký pilíř is also located there. Route markings and climbing conditions can change. Check current conditions and access before climbing.

Church, art and local history

The pseudo-Gothic Church of St Lawrence in Lubenec was built in 1846 on the site of an older Gothic structure. In front of the church, a Baroque statue of St Sebastian dating from 1733 stands on a tall plinth. The church and statue thus represent different historical periods, which you can distinguish as you explore the town’s history.

A sculpture of St John of Nepomuk, dating from 1745, stands on a new plinth in the village square. The cemetery also has a 19th-century wooden cross with a painted metal figure of Christ. These works are spread across different locations in the town and include both religious sculptures and a work of folk art.

Lubenec was first mentioned as a small town in 1415 and was again described as one in 1579. In nearby Libyně, the Vitrážové muzeum displays copies of stained-glass works from the Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance periods, as well as from the 19th century. Visitors interested in glass art can find examples from several art-historical periods here, while Lubenec’s history reaches back to its earliest written records.

Planning tips

Outside the tourist season, keys for the Vochlická rozhledna observation tower in Lubenec can be borrowed from the stained-glass workshop. As seasonal dates and key collection arrangements can change, confirm both before your visit.

Information and promotional materials about the nature trail are intended to be available to visitors at the Lubenec municipal information centre. Ask in advance whether they are available. Lubenecký rybník is associated with an outdoor swimming pool. If swimming is part of your plans, check current operating conditions in advance.
