The 22-kilometre Louny–Peruc cycling route passes through Veltěže. The chapel, library services and historical finds also offer local points of interest along the way. A pony course for children aged five to ten adds a specific activity for young participants. You can therefore choose whether to focus your stay on the cycling route, local history or a children’s course.
Cycling route and regional setting
The Louny–Peruc cycling route passes through Černčice, Veltěže, Slavětín, Kystra, Radonice, Pátek and Stradonice before reaching Peruc. Check the current route before setting out, as route details may change. Veltěže can also serve as a starting point for exploring the České středohoří and Žatecko tourist regions. This gives you both a specific cycling connection and a regional perspective to help plan your trip.
Chapel and local history
The Chapel of Saint Florian stands on the district road near the centre of Veltěže. The building is Neo-Romanesque, with walls articulated by lesenes and two semicircular side windows. Lesenes are narrow vertical strips of wall that divide a façade. The chapel’s style, window shape and wall articulation give it a distinct architectural character.
In 1790, a pot containing old coins was found at a place in Veltěže known as Zámeček, and an old cellar with iron doors was discovered nearby. Archaeological finds offer another perspective: Neolithic stone tools were found near a mill in the vicinity of Veltěže. Pits and graves belonging to the La Tène culture, containing iron finds, were identified in fields southwest of the village. Thus, Neolithic tools stand alongside pits and graves from the La Tène culture—two different forms of archaeological evidence.
The Výstava na stromech was held in Veltěže from 5 to 12 October 2024. Nationwide, this exhibition event takes place every October during Decent Work Week.
Library and activities for children
The Veltěže library offers lending services for children, young people and adults. On Fridays, it runs the “kroužek šikovných ručiček” club. If you plan to attend, check the current date, as the schedule may change.
The Exkalibur Veltěže riding club offers a pony course for children aged five to ten. It consists of seven lessons, with both theoretical and practical parts. Check the course’s current availability before booking. The two activities differ in their timing: the library club takes place on Fridays, while the pony course consists of seven lessons. For planning purposes, these are two different kinds of time information: a day of the week and the number of course lessons.
