Nový Hrad gives Jimlín a clear cultural focus. Chapels in the village and surrounding area, as well as the route towards Pravda, add further points of interest to a visit to the castle. When planning your visit, you can therefore distinguish between the castle's rooms, religious buildings, and a route passing through several place names.

Nový Hrad: two tours, different areas

The two permanent tours of Nový Hrad cover different areas. The tour of the upper floors includes the Chapel of St Joseph; the tour of the lower areas and cellars also takes visitors into the original castle's wine and beer cellars. The key to choosing between the options is whether you would like to see the upper rooms with their chapel or the cellars. Those who want to explore both sides of the castle can plan the two options as separate tours. Advance booking is recommended for larger groups and if you would like to arrange a specific tour time.

Castle Details and Chapels in Jimlín

Eleven painted Baroque plank ceilings form an ensemble that was restored between 2007 and 2013. Nový Hrad originated as a stone, palace-like fortress built by the knight Záviš of Jimlín above Jimlín in the 14th century. Thus, two periods are represented: the medieval origins of the fortress and the restoration of the Baroque ceilings.

There is also a Baroque statue of St John of Nepomuk on an ornate pedestal in front of Nový Hrad. Another chapel stands in the village on a small rise. It was established in 1853–1854 and consecrated on 10 May 1857. This village chapel should be distinguished from the Chapel of St Joseph in the castle, which is part of the upper-floor tour. Jimlín railway station and the Jimlín/Zeměchy bus stop are available for visiting the village chapel.

East of Jimlín, near Nový Hrad, a large niche chapel stands at a crossroads of farm tracks leading to Zeměchy and the local cemetery. Its location by the farm tracks helps distinguish it from the chapel on the rise in the village.

Events and the Route towards Pravda

Nový Hrad hosts numerous cultural and social events. If you are planning your trip around an event, check its date in advance.

The ruins of Pravda Castle lie near Jimlín, on a wooded spur above Pnětluky in Džbán Nature Park. The Louny–Jimlín–Pravda (Pnětluky) route passes through Jimlín and then continues via Opočno, Hřivice, and Konětopy to the turn-off below Pravda. These are different reference points for finding your way: the route goes as far as the turn-off below Pravda, while the ruins lie above Pnětluky.
