Místo was founded in the mid-16th century amid newly opened mines around Hasištejn. The history of the mining town remains connected to a Baroque church and religious monuments; at the same time, protected landscape areas are part of the planning area. Those planning a stay can consider local history, religious art and nature as different focal points.

Mining Town and Crafts

Místo was founded in the mid-16th century, when more mines were opened around Hasištejn. The settlement developed into a mining town; its first historical mention dates from 1569. The founding and the first mention are two distinct milestones in the town’s history. Místo also became a center for the guilds of the surrounding villages. These included cloth makers, tailors, masons, stonemasons, carpenters, wheelwrights and coopers. The guilds add a broad craft tradition to the picture of the mining town.

Church and Religious Monuments

At the southeastern edge of the town stands the Baroque Church of the Holy Trinity, built between 1691 and 1692. Its single-nave layout consists of a rectangular nave and a separate, almost rectangular presbytery. The sculptural decoration of the main altar comes from the workshop of sculptor and woodcarver Jakub Eberle. Místo is also home to a Baroque Holy Trinity column dating from 1724.

Another monument is a crucifix on a Corinthian column, with reliefs of the Virgin Mary, Saint Sebastian, Saint Rosalia and Saint Roch. It dates from before 1800 and was moved here from Kralupy. A wayside shrine dating from the early 16th century stands on the road to Vysoká Jedle. Místo also has smaller religious monuments that were moved here from villages destroyed by lignite mining at the Nástup mine. Thus, the religious heritage of the town includes not only different architectural forms but also varied histories of origin and location.

Nature and Routes

The Místo planning area includes Prunéřovské údolí Nature Park, which is home to the Kokrháč Natural Monument. The Kokrháč–Hasištejn Natura 2000 site, number 5475, is also part of the planning area. These protected areas add a landscape and nature perspective to the town’s history.

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary was restored in the Vysoká Jedle district. A report published in April 2024 noted that it was regularly used for services. The “From Birch Groves Across Rocks and Waterfalls to Hasištejn” hike starts in Vysoká Jedle, where visitors can see the chapel.

A project is also planned for cyclists: the Prunéřov–Černovice cycle route project includes Místo and is intended to connect directly to the existing Ohře Cycle Route. The planned route is for slow mobility and transport, and is aimed at cyclists, families with children and tourists. The connection is part of the project and is stated as a goal.
