Woodland, mining history and leisure activities give Vysoká Pec U Jirkova several different facets. The Jezerka Nature Reserve extends across the cadastral areas of Vysoká Pec and is entirely forested. In the surrounding area, there are also viewpoints, an outdoor swimming pool and other activities. This makes it possible to shape your stay around your own interests, without having to combine nature, local history and exercise into the same itinerary.

Woodland and viewpoints

Jezerka is characterised by its entirely forested landscape. The area around Jezeří Mountain, within the nature reserve, is nearby. From there, you can enjoy views of Jedlová Mountain, the Vesnický potok valley and the Jezeří Reservoir. Those interested in the landscape around the protected area will find several specific vantage points rather than just one focal point.

The Tereza viewpoint is also nearby. It lies on a forest path towards the summit of Jedlová, which is 853 metres high. From there, the view extends over the Bohemian Central Highlands, Jezeří Castle and a nearby brown coal mine. At Jezeří Mountain, the view takes in Jedlová, the valley and the reservoir; from the Tereza viewpoint, you can see Jezeří Castle, the Bohemian Central Highlands and the nearby brown coal mine. Growing trees restrict the view from the Tereza viewpoint.

Mining history and chapel

In Vysoká Pec, the headframe of the former brown coal mine has been preserved as a protected cultural monument. It recalls the area’s former mining industry, while the Baroque Chapel of Panny Marie offers another glimpse of the town’s history: it was built in 1904. The two buildings represent different chapters in local history and offer a concrete reason to appreciate the town for more than its landscape alone.

The name Vysoká Pec may also have a historical connection. One possible explanation is a blast furnace that stood at the site of today’s settlement at the end of the 18th century, along with workers’ accommodation. This interpretation remains a possibility. It adds an older connection to work and settlement to the evidence of the former brown coal mine.

Outdoor swimming pool and facilities

Koupaliště Vysoká Pec is the local outdoor swimming pool. Its facilities include parking, bicycle racks and sanitary facilities, as well as terraces and a children’s playground. There are also workout stations, a floodlit beach volleyball court, a floodlit multi-purpose court and a table tennis table. The site therefore offers various facilities for activity and relaxation in one place; individual features may change. Check the current facilities before your visit.

Cycling and winter sports

A named regional cycling tour follows the route Chomutov–Jirkov–Vysoká Pec–Lesná. It passes through Vysoká Pec on its way to Drmaly. This provides a specific cycling connection for the town, without implying a particular journey time or difficulty level. In Vysoká Pec, Hostinec u Wojty also has an outdoor area, bicycle racks and parking.

Skiareál Pyšná has three downhill runs and three ski lifts. There is also a ski school and a children’s ski park. The facilities also include evening skiing and a snow park with obstacles and a cross-country course. When considering a visit, you can distinguish between the various winter sports options without limiting any one of them to a particular target group. These facilities and activities offer a different focus from the woodland, viewpoints or outdoor swimming pool.

Different ways to spend your stay

The facts about Vysoká Pec U Jirkova range from protected woodland and viewpoints to a cultural monument, chapel and leisure facilities. When planning your stay, it helps to consider these themes separately: the viewpoints are characterised by their respective views, local history by its historic buildings and interpretations, and leisure facilities by their listed amenities.
