Jindrichova Ves combines a long craft tradition with named hiking and cycling routes. When hiking, you can choose between a gentle climb to Kamenná hůrka, a trail along the edge of the Novodomské rašeliniště Nature Reserve and a beech-forest trail to Jindrichova Ves. The village’s history adds another focus: nail-making and chapels tell different stories of life in the village in the past.
Village History and Crafts
The village’s history dates back to 1775. Count Heinrich von Rottenhan was involved in its founding; originally, Jindrichova Ves was a settlement of charcoal burners and forest workers. Quarrying stone and forestry were also among the historic occupations. Nail-making was particularly widespread: there was a nail forge at almost every other house. The blacksmiths apparently made almost every kind of nail, including horseshoe, construction, ship and rail nails. The fact that almost every other house had a forge gives a tangible sense of how widespread the trade was; the types of nails mentioned ranged from horseshoe nails to those used in railway construction.
A chapel of its own was built in 1892 and dedicated to the Mother of God; it was repaired in 1995. The façade of St. Anne’s Chapel was also repaired and repainted as part of maintenance work. Together, the village’s history, crafts and chapels provide a cultural counterpoint to the trails through the surrounding area.
Hiking Around Jindrichova Ves
One hike leads through picturesque Jindrichova Ves before gently climbing to the summit of Kamenná hůrka. The route includes the edge of the village before continuing uphill to the summit. The hike’s parking area is near the junction with the dead-end road to Jindrichova Ves.
A blue-marked trail runs along the edge of the Novodomské rašeliniště National Nature Reserve to Jelení vrch. The trail marker, the edge of the reserve and the endpoint provide clear reference points for this hike. Another hike around Kalek follows a forest path lined with beeches to Jindrichova Ves and its chapel. This offers a choice of different points of interest: a gentle climb to a summit, a trail along the edge of a nature reserve, or a forest path ending in the village.
The historic route of the ridge trail was different: it ran through Kalek, Načetín and Jindrichova Ves. This route is part of the history of the local trails and adds a look back in time to the current hiking descriptions.
Cycling Routes and Choosing a Trail
The cycling tour “Na věhlasné poutní místo” runs through Kalek and Načetín. Jindrichova Ves is listed as a district of Načetín. The Kalecký circuit is suitable for beginners and young people; much of the route follows non-public roads and there are no steep climbs. If you are weighing up the climbs, you can compare the gentle ascent to Kamenná hůrka with the Kalecký circuit, for which no steep climbs are indicated.
Further afield in the region, a cycling tour offers views of Nový rybník, a pond considered part of the characteristic landscape of the Ore Mountains. When planning a cycling trip, it is advisable to check the current route before setting off, as route details may change. This makes it possible to compare the named scenic and historic destinations with the characteristics of each route.
