Bílence offers two clearly distinct historical landmarks: the church dedicated to St. Bartholomew on the village square and a small Baroque château whose building has survived to this day. The village is also on Cycle Route No. 3034 from Postoloprty to Chomutov. This offers two different ways to plan a stay: explore the village’s architectural history or include Bílence as a stop along a cycling route.
The Church on the Village Square
The church stands on the village square and is dedicated to St. Bartholomew. In the second half of the 15th century, it was built as a chapel for the Hrobčický family of Hrobčice; in 1734, Count Filip of Kolovrat had it completely rebuilt. Several centuries separate its original function as a chapel from this extensive reconstruction. Those interested in local history can therefore place the church within two clearly distinct stages: its early role as a chapel and its later reconstruction. The village square provides a clear sense of its setting.
The Small Baroque Château
The château tells a story of later construction. In the last quarter of the 18th century, the Auerspergs built a small Baroque château in the right-hand part of Bílence’s farmyard. The château building, which survives to this day, features Neoclassical elements. Its story therefore differs from that of the church: the château is defined by its builders, its location in the farmyard and the combination of Baroque and Neoclassical elements. Together, the two buildings offer an introduction to different periods of the village’s history, rather than representing the same era or function.
Bílence on Cycle Route 3034
For cyclists, Route No. 3034 offers a separate way to plan a visit. It runs from Postoloprty to Chomutov and passes through Bílence; at kilometre 18.50, the village lies between Velemyšleves and Údlice. A municipal route description from 2026 rates the route as easy and says it is suitable for all types of bicycle. Route information may be updated, so check the current course before setting out. The kilometre marker and the two neighbouring villages help with navigation on this particular route. This makes it possible to see Bílence as a point along a cycling trip, while the church and château offer a different, architectural-historical perspective on the village.
Choose a Stay to Suit Your Interests
When choosing a holiday apartment, you can start by considering what you want to focus on during your trip to Bílence. For cultural history, the church and château take centre stage, with their different construction periods and architectural functions; for a cycling trip, Route 3034 provides an additional connection that passes through the village. If you would like to combine both interests, you can weigh them up when choosing where to stay and decide whether to give more emphasis to cycling or to the village’s historical heritage.
