If you would like to combine local history and nature in Svetla, you will find two distinct focal points: in the village, buildings from the former manor estate, historic barns and monuments have been preserved; in the surrounding area, forests invite you to enjoy long walks. Regular fish harvests at the ponds and the local “Běh Světlou” run are also part of the picture. A stay here can therefore take you beyond architectural history and include the landscape and recurring local activities.

Landscape and Location

The cadastral area of Svetla lies in the geological depression of the Boskovická brázda. To the east, the rising hills of the Drahanská vrchovina border the area. These two geographical features show the contrast between the depression and its rising eastern edge. The surrounding forests invite you to enjoy long walks and offer mushrooms and wild berries. If you would like to add time outdoors to your trip, you can plan these forest activities alongside visits to the historic buildings in the village.

The Manor Estate and Rural Architectural History

Several buildings from the former manor estate have been preserved in Svetla. It was founded in 1563 by the abbot of Hradisko Monastery; in 1721, the manor estate was remodelled in the Baroque style. A group of timber barns dating from the 18th century has also been preserved, along with several farmsteads from around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The architectural history can therefore be explored both chronologically and by building type: the Baroque remodelling followed the manor estate’s foundation, while the barns and farmsteads add other rural architectural forms from later centuries. This gives culture enthusiasts a thread to follow that extends beyond a single building.

Monuments and Local Landmarks

The monuments also reflect different periods. The monument to Emperor Franz Joseph I was reconstructed and subsequently re-erected in the village. A local resident restored the monument to František Palacký in the 1970s. Together, these memorial sites add two further aspects to the history of the manor estate: reconstruction followed by re-erection, and restoration by a local resident. The “Starý kříž” offers a specific landmark outside the village centre: it stands on a farm track about 250 m west of Svetla, below the village.

Local Activities and Planning

The “Běh Světlou” run is part of the regular local events programme. Fish harvests are also held regularly at the ponds behind the municipal office and in the centre. These offer different ways to plan a stay: a named running event and recurring activities at the local ponds. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the specific dates in advance.

The forests in the surrounding area offer another way to plan time outside the village, with opportunities for longer walks. This gives you several options for your trip: the village’s architectural history, the landscape and regular local activities. Information about the ponds, monuments and walking opportunities can help you distinguish between these interests without having to combine them into a fixed itinerary.
