Kulirov lies in the gently rolling terrain of the Drahanská vrchovina, about 14 km northwest of Vyškov. There are several specific points of interest to help you plan your trip: a stream with ponds in the built-up area, marked cycling routes, a chapel and local festival traditions. You can shape your stay around cycling, the landscape or village history, depending on your interests.

Water and landscape

The Kulířovský potok flows through the built-up area of Kulirov, where three small ponds lie along the stream. Water and the settlement are therefore closely connected: the ponds are among the village’s defining features. Also near Kulirov, at Studnice in the area known as Pod Fasůvkou, is the Studnické louky nature reserve. It is home to wet meadows and protected plants, including the broad-leaved marsh orchid. For nature outings, there is a clear distinction between the stream and ponds in the built-up area and the wet-meadow reserve near Studnice.

Cycling routes with different destinations

Marked cycling route 5029 passes through Kulirov and continues towards Studnice. Another marked cycling route passes through Kulirov via Rozstání, Baldovec and Holštejn, continuing to the Sloupsko-šošůvské Caves. These descriptions offer two different reference points: Studnice is the stated direction for route 5029, while the caves are the destination given for the route through the named villages. You can compare the routes by the direction or destination you prefer. It is advisable to check the current route status before setting out.

Village history at the green and the pond

The Chapel of St Anne stands on the village green. Kulirov’s oldest wayside shrines stand in the fields beside the road from Kulirov towards Panský mlýn; they were erected in 1635. A statue of St John of Nepomuk has stood by the upper pond since 1880. The dates mark different periods: the wayside shrines were erected in the 17th century, while the statue has stood by the pond since the late 19th century. The village green, the road and the upper pond thus provide different reference points for the village’s cultural history.

Festivals and tournaments throughout the year

For Hody, a solemn Mass is celebrated in the chapel on 26 July. The traditional Hasičský bál (firefighters’ ball) is also part of local events; it takes place in all the rooms of the cultural centre. Sporting events add to the calendar: the traditional two-player nohejbal tournament is held at the end of the year, and the Josefský table tennis tournament takes place in March. The events are spread throughout the year. If you are travelling specifically for a festival or tournament, check the current dates in advance.

Cycling routes and event traditions answer different planning questions: for a ride, the direction and destination matter; for a festival or tournament, it is the date. If you want both to be part of your trip, first choose when you would like to attend an event, then plan your routes around the options listed above.
