The Lubě stream, the Krkatá bába rock formation and the Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary offer different ways to explore the destination: its landscape, geology and local cultural heritage. There are also rare heat-loving plants, as well as information about cycling and hiking routes. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can assess Lubě based on your specific interests—whether you want your stay to focus on nature, rock formations, culture or outdoor activities.

The stream and rock formations

The Lubě stream begins in Lubě in the Blansko District, where smaller streams converge, and is about 22 kilometres long. Its upper course runs through valleys. The Krkatá bába rock formation lies above the stream’s left bank, about one kilometre from Lubě in the Žernovnická hrást. Its formations extend for about 500 metres along the same bank. This length describes the extent of the rocks; the height of up to 15 metres, by contrast, refers to several rock towers and blocks at the southern end of the Krkatá bába gorge. This distinguishes the extent of the rock formations from their height.

Rock and rare plants

The formations consist of reddish Rokytná conglomerates from the Boskovice Furrow, dating from the Carboniferous to the Permian. Their colour, the rock name and the geological time span add information about the material and geological history to the view of the rock formation. Krkatá bába can therefore be described both by its visible shape and its geological classification.

The Krkatá bába site is home to rare, regionally highly endangered, heat-loving plant species: common juniper, single-seeded hawthorn, two-leaved lizard orchid and fringed melick. These species give the nature theme a specific botanical focus alongside the geological features of the rocks.

Hiking and cycling

There are two route suggestions for getting around. Cycle route 5268 passes through Lubě. As signage may change, check the current route before setting out. The “Údolím říčky Lubě” route is suitable for both hikers and cyclists and runs in the vicinity of the Moravian Karst. This distinction may help you choose: route 5268 is described as a cycle route through Lubě, while the second route is also suitable for a walking trip and is located in the vicinity of the Moravian Karst.

Krkatá bába can be reached via a walkable tourist trail; the rock formation is more than 250 metres from the road.

A cultural landmark

The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is an important local cultural heritage site in Lubě. It adds a cultural dimension alongside the stream, rock formations and plants. The chapel is therefore a landmark in its own right when planning a trip, while the geological and botanical themes are centred particularly around Krkatá bába.
