A 6-hectare pond where swimming is possible, extensive forests and marked cycling routes give Suchy several distinct highlights. At the same time, the terrain around the town is hilly and more challenging. When planning your trip, you can consider water, scenery and activity as different aspects of a stay.
Pond and scenery
Swimming is possible in Suchy’s 6-hectare pond. If water is a factor in choosing your destination, the pond gives you a specific reason to consider Suchy. Unlike the forest trails, the focus here is on an activity in the water, so you can treat swimming as a separate highlight alongside the scenery and cycling. The pond’s area of 6 hectares also gives you a clear sense of its size.
Suchy is surrounded by the extensive forests of the Drahany Highlands. They offer views across the landscape, especially to the west. This brings the surrounding area itself into focus as well as a stay by the pond. If scenery is part of your choice of destination, the western view is a specific point of reference for a different aspect of your stay from swimming in the water.
Cycling routes and terrain
Marked cycling routes run through the forests around Suchy; most follow paved surfaces. At the same time, the terrain is hilly and therefore more challenging. When choosing a route, it is worth considering the trail and the terrain separately: the markings help with navigation, the surface describes the ground, and the hills present a challenge of their own. Paved trails do not automatically mean easy terrain.
Planning and activities
The Suchy Information Centre provides tourist information on cycling and ski routes, sights, trip ideas, accommodation and dining establishments, as well as transport connections. When planning, you can consider your choice of route or excursion together with questions about accommodation, dining and connections. Even if swimming or the scenery is what draws you to Suchy, the Information Centre is a place to get help incorporating other tourist activities into your stay.
The campsite has a new, high-quality court for tennis and nohejbal. It is open and must be booked at the Information Centre. So if you plan to take part in these sports, you will need to make a reservation. Tennis and nohejbal are a separate activity highlight alongside swimming and cycling; booking at the Information Centre is the practical step to take before using the court.
A local origin story
According to local tradition, the name Suchy is linked to the resettlement of residents from the former glassmaking settlement of Benýška. This origin story connects the town’s name with an earlier settlement and its glassmaking history. It adds a local historical dimension to the area’s natural scenery and sporting activities.
