Újezd U Boskovic lies on the southwestern edge of the Drahanská vrchovina highlands. Anyone planning a stay here will find several tangible points of interest in the forested landscape, marked trails and traces of history. The marked green hiking route runs east of the municipality through its larger cadastral area; the cycling routes pass through the municipal area.
Forest and Terrain
The cadastral area covers 909 hectares of forest, equivalent to 71 percent of its total area. The high proportion of forest gives the landscape a clear sense of character. At the same time, Újezd U Boskovic lies on sloping, southwest-facing terrain at an elevation of about 510 metres. The approximate elevation and the orientation describe two different features: the height of the location and the direction of the slope. A cascade of small forest ponds has also been restored in the woodland.
The green hiking route and the cycling routes follow different paths. If you use a map or route description to plan, you can therefore focus on the relevant markers and the named places along each route.
Hiking and Cycling Routes
The marked green hiking route runs from Blansko via Petrovice, Kuničky, Boskovice, Suchý and Žďárná to Sloup. Its connection to Újezd U Boskovic is clearly defined: it runs east of the municipality through its cadastral area. Use the named places along the route to orient yourself.
For cyclists, cycling route 5117 is described with its own sequence of places: it passes through the municipal area from Boskovice nádr. via Kamenný žleb, Žďár and Petrovice to Blansko. Cycling route 5229 serves a different purpose. Between Divoký žleb and Kamenný žleb, it connects cycling routes 5203 and 5117. When choosing a route, note that 5117 passes through several places, while 5229 connects two numbered cycling routes.
The Koupaliště in the Summer Months
The Koupaliště recreational centre operates during the summer months with a pool containing treated drinking water. The centre has toilets and an open snack bar; these facilities may be seasonal. If you are planning a visit, check the current opening and facility information. This way, you can account for the centre’s seasonal nature rather than assuming it operates year-round.
Traces from Different Eras
The history of the area can also be read in its different layers of time. Archaeological finds of stone weapons provide evidence of prehistoric settlement in Újezd U Boskovic. A fortified settlement once stood northwest of the village, surrounded by three ditches. The ditches were two to three metres deep and five metres wide.
The ruins of Doubravský hrad castle lie southwest of Újezd U Boskovic. The castle was built in the second half of the 13th century and fell into ruin in the mid-15th century. The prehistoric finds, the former fortified settlement and the medieval castle thus represent distinct periods in time.
