Šebrov-Kateřina combines a hilly stream landscape with a distinctive cultural landmark: the Church of St. Catherine was built in the 15th century on a rocky spur near Šebrov. This gives you two different points of focus when planning your trip: the building’s history and the trails in the surrounding wooded area. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Šebrov-Kateřina, you can first decide whether the church as a historical and cultural landmark or the landscape is the main attraction.
Streams and Woodlands
Šebrov lies in a lower-lying hollow at the confluence of streams, in hilly terrain. Historically, the Šebrovka was a boundary stream that divided Šebrov between two estates. To the north, the Vranovské lesy woodlands border the built-up areas of Šebrov-Kateřina.
The landscape areas also differ: the local Nezbedka biocentre encompasses the Šebrovka valley, with meadows and adjacent woodland. The local Na Šebrovce biocentre encompasses woodland with a higher proportion of naturally occurring species. Thus, both stream and meadow areas and woodland are among the municipality’s landscape features.
Church of St. Catherine and Local History
The Church of St. Catherine was built in the 15th century and is traditionally dated to 1469. The three-nave building is in the Late Rustic Gothic style. A large tombstone in the front left section of the nave is said to seal the entrance to a crypt beneath the church. Its location near Šebrov on a rocky spur and the details inside offer different starting points for learning about the church.
You can reach the church on IDS-JMK bus route 152, getting off at the Sv. Kateřina stop. Check the current route before travelling. During the 2024 Masopust procession in Svatá Kateřina, traditional Koblížky and other small dishes were offered at the houses.
Cycling Route and Trail to the Viewpoint
For cyclists, the route known as “cyklotrasa P. Bezruče” runs north to south through the administrative area of Šebrov-Kateřina. Within the area, it follows access roads through woodland and alongside the Šebrovka River. The direction, woods and river help orient you along this cycling route.
Another option is the green-marked trail from the centre of Šebrov-Kateřina to a viewpoint near Duchova rozhledna. It is 1.2 km long. The trail description identifies the viewpoint as its destination, so the route is designed to lead there.
In the Šebrov-Kateřina area, Duchova rozhledna offers views south over wooded hills and the karst landscape of the Moravian Karst. There is also a rest area nearby with seating and a fire pit. As outdoor facilities can change, check what is available before your visit.
The two route options have different points of reference: the cycling route is described by its north–south direction and the landscape along the way, while the green-marked trail is described by its starting point in the centre, its length and the viewpoint. When looking for a holiday apartment, it may therefore help to decide first what matters most to you: the church’s history, cycling or the trail to the viewpoint. This lets you plan your trip around the reason for your stay without combining every activity into a fixed day-by-day itinerary.
