Úterý combines Baroque architectural history with a nature trail and local ceramics. The circuit, seasonal crafts and opportunities for walking or cycling appeal to a range of interests. If you’re looking for a hotel in Úterý, first consider what you want to shape your stay: the buildings in town, a possible workshop visit or trails in the surrounding area.

Church and Chapel

The Baroque Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist stands in Úterý and was consecrated in 1698. Its oval floor plan, façade tower and richly decorated interior characterize the building. The Baroque Chapel of Saint Wenceslas was built on the hill above Úterý in 1747. The dates refer to different events: 1698 marks the church’s consecration, and 1747 the chapel’s construction. Together, these dates help distinguish two sacred buildings with different forms and settings.

Nature Trail and Excursions

The Městečkem Úterý nature trail is about 1.5 kilometers long. Its first seven stops form a circuit that starts at the square by the town hall. Three outlying stops offer ideas for walks or cycling excursions in the surrounding area. This gives you both a walking route and ideas for trips nearby. The nature trail’s final sign introduces the valley of the Úterský potok. From the context of the final sign, you can walk from the southern side of Úterý along the banks of the Úterský potok to the Hracholusky Reservoir.

Ceramics and Workshops

Úterská keramika makes original functional ceramics with Art Nouveau elements. The description highlights the pieces’ everyday use, while the Art Nouveau elements identify their design style. During the summer months, you can take part in workshops at the studio and try out various artistic techniques. The program may vary before your trip. If a workshop is a deciding factor for you, check in advance whether you can take part during your visit.

Spring and Brickworks Remains

Úterská uhličitá kyselka is a carbonated spring first mentioned in 1693. It lies 2.2 kilometers to the left of the road to Teplá. If you’re planning a visit, check the current access conditions in advance.

The remains of the former Haidlovy cihelny brickworks include a factory chimney just over 20 meters high and the ruins of a kiln. From a village pond in Olešovice, a convenient woodland path leads to the remains over a distance of about half a kilometer. The woodland path to the brickworks is therefore shorter than the nature trail, which is around 1.5 kilometers long; the figures refer to different destinations. Trail conditions and the state of the remains may change. Check both before setting out.
