St. Prokop Church is a clear cultural and historical landmark in Všehrdy: the former parish church building was mentioned as early as 1250. At the same time, the area around Všehrdy belongs to Berounka Nature Park, and the Všehrdský potok stream flows through the village. This gives you two perspectives for planning your trip: the architectural history of a single building and the area’s geographical setting within the Berounka region. Which one you would like to explore first depends on whether you are more interested in historic architecture or the regional location.

St. Prokop: several building phases

The dates associated with the church describe different stages. 1250 is the year of its early mention; the original Gothic building phase, by contrast, dates to the mid-14th century. The early mention and the Gothic origins answer different questions about the village’s history, rather than giving a single construction date. This distinction clearly places the two dates in their respective periods.

The next clearly dated stage is the renovation from 1730 to 1732. It was carried out based on a design by Jan B. Santini in the Baroque Gothic style, with O. Kondel as master builder. The Gothic origins and the Baroque Gothic renovation thus stand side by side as distinct building phases. The style designation refers to the later alteration, not to the original Gothic building.

Baroque stone elements on the façade were extensively restored, including the coat of arms of Abbot Eugen Tyttl, dated 1732. This year also falls within the renovation period, linking a specifically dated façade detail to the later building phase. The cemetery was established during the renovation, between 1730 and 1732. Všehrdy also has its own entry focused on St. Prokop in the “Putování za Santinim” cultural heritage project. The connection to Santini is thus reflected both in the renovation design and in Všehrdy’s dedicated entry in the cultural heritage project.

Berounka Nature Park and geographical orientation

The area around Všehrdy belongs to Berounka Nature Park. The Všehrdský potok stream flows through the village; downstream from Všehrdy, Barborův mlýn mill is located on the same stream. For a sense of the area’s geography, you can distinguish between these details: the nature park defines the area, the stream runs through the village, and the mill is located downstream.

The road information also helps pinpoint the location. Road II/201 runs east to west through the area around Všehrdy. A road runs through Všehrdy and continues via Holovousy, Chříč, and Zvíkovec to the bridge over the Berounka. These details answer different questions about orientation: II/201 is identified by its direction, while the sequence of villages specifies the road’s route to the bridge. If you are planning to use II/201 for a journey, check the current traffic conditions.
