Oldris combines nature and local history with practical options for active days: a riddle hike lasting several hours, cycling route 4022, and notable architectural and memorial sites offer a range of experiences. The village lies in the valley of the ÄŚernĂ˝ potok; its forests and historical details each provide a distinctive point of interest for planning your trip.

Valley, Forests and Protected Landscape

The Černý potok is one of the tributaries of the nearby Svratka, in the Morava river basin. Oldris is entirely forested in the north, where the Královec forest is located. At the southern tip, the Žleby forest forms a continuous woodland area. The southern part of Oldris lies within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The U Třech buků locality is also associated with the appealing wooded corners of the Dolní Štamberk forest. This means the valley and several named forest areas can be included in your trip planning as distinct landscape features.

The Riddle Hike as a Longer Activity

The six-kilometre riddle hike “Cesta za Oldřišským pokladem” is intended for school-age children and adults. It takes approximately four to five hours. Both the route length and the stated duration are therefore important for planning your day: treat the hike as an activity lasting several hours, and do not plan based on distance alone. It is not suitable for strollers; sturdy footwear is required.

The starting point is at MĹŻj obchod at the lower end of Oldris. The instructions are available in a black box. The hike ends at the Oldris municipal office, where a treasure chest awaits participants. As availability may change, check before setting off that the instructions are there.

Cycling Route and Getting There

Another option for active days is cycling route 4022. It runs from Polička via Sádek and Oldris to Borová, passing through the village. Check the route conditions before setting off. Oldris railway station is part of the IREDO integrated transport system. If you are travelling by train, check the timetable and fares before your trip.

Architectural Styles and Historical Details

Oldris has traditional farmsteads of the “poličské dvorce” type, built half of wood and half of masonry. This mixed construction is a distinctive feature of local architecture. At the U zbořených mostů locality, there is a pond beside which two stone arches of an old bridge remain. The bridge connects Oldris and Široký Důl.

The façade of the Orlovna features a depiction of Saint Wenceslas on horseback. The building opened on 28 September 1929. The Chapel of sv. Františka z Assisi also offers a specific point of interest for those interested in cultural history: it contains marble sourced directly from the Monte Subasio mountain range. The chapel can be used for weddings and other religious and civil ceremonies by arrangement with the mayor.

Oldris’s landmarks also include Boží muka, traditional roadside chapels or wayside shrines. The wayside cross near Roušar was damaged when a tree fell during a storm, restored in 2014, and returned to its original location. Together with the farmsteads, the Orlovna and the bridge arches, these examples show different aspects of the local architectural and memorial heritage.
