Vidlatá Seč is defined by clearly identified cultural landmarks: the Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, several memorial sites and a marked cycling route. The Toulovcovy Maštale Nature Reserve is also nearby. The town’s history and places of remembrance are thus complemented by a specific connection to cycling and a natural attraction in the region.

The Chapel and Mass Times

The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a prominent landmark in Vidlatá Seč. It dates from the 17th century; its present appearance dates back to 1771. These two dates offer different perspectives on the building: its earlier origins and the form it took later. Those interested in the town’s religious history will find a clearly identified point of interest here. Masses are scheduled at the chapel on Tuesdays in even-numbered calendar weeks: at 5 p.m. in winter and 6 p.m. in summer. Check the current Mass schedule before your visit. If you plan to attend Mass, check the date before your visit.

Memorial Sites and Local History

The memorial sites also commemorate different aspects of history. The monument to the victims of the First World War is located in Vidlatá Seč; its inscription lists the fallen of 1914–1918 under the heading “NEVRÁTILI SE” (“THEY DID NOT RETURN”). Its significance therefore extends beyond individual biographies and is explicitly tied to this period of war. The remembrance of František Famfulík, by contrast, is linked to two specific locations: his memorial plaque is on the school building at Vidlatá Seč 56, and his cenotaph is in the town cemetery. Famfulík was from Vidlatá Seč and served as a gendarmerie sergeant. The plaque recalls that he was shot on 8 July 1943 at the Kobylisy shooting range, a victim of Nazi violence. The cenotaph inscription records the same death as an execution by Germans.

Cycling Route and Historic Trade Route

For cyclists, the marked “Krajem Smetany a Martinů” route passes through Vidlatá Seč towards Jarošov and Dolní Újezd. It gives the town a specific connection for planning a cycling trip: Vidlatá Seč lies on the named route, which leads in the two indicated directions. The historic Trstěnická stezka trade route is a separate feature. It once ran near Vidlatá Seč from Makov to Chotěnov. Thus, two distinct travel connections are found here: a marked cycling route through the town and a former trade route near the settlement.

Surroundings and Choosing Where to Stay

The Toulovcovy Maštale Nature Reserve is in the vicinity of Vidlatá Seč, about 7 km away. This regional natural attraction is distinct from the cultural and memorial sites located in the town, while the cycling route passes through Vidlatá Seč. When choosing where to stay, you can consider whether the chapel’s history and memorials, a cycling trip or the nearby nature reserve will shape your visit.
