Glassmaking history, waterways and recurring events give Lubná several different aspects to consider when planning a trip. The municipality was first mentioned in 1167; in 1347, the settlement was assigned to the Litomyšl chapter.

Local History and Glassmaking Tradition

Kajetánčina huť made Lubná well known in the first half of the 19th century. Its glass products were exported to Spain, the Netherlands and America. According to local tradition, the chandelier for the Chapel of St. Anne in Kajetánčina huť was made there, linking the story of the glassworks with a building in the village centre.

The Chapel of St. Anne stands in the centre of Lubná. It was enlarged in 1857 and dedicated to St. Anne. Two other monuments are located along roads: the statue of the Holy Trinity stands on the road from Lubná to Široký Důl, and the statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands on the road known as Stará silnice. Their settings are therefore distinct: the chapel is in the village centre, while the statues are associated with named roads.

Waterways and High Points

The Lubenský potok stream flows through the built-up part of Lubná and rises in Lubenské paseky. The Desná rises in the Lubenský les forest. The two waterways are easy to distinguish: the Lubenský potok is defined by its course through the built-up area, while the Desná is defined by its source in the forest. At 699 metres above sea level, Skalka is the highest point in Lubná.

Festivals Throughout the Year

The recurring events take place at different times and venues. The Anenská pouť pilgrimage festival is held every year at Lubná’s summer grounds, with dates varying from year to year. The Velikonoční jarmark Easter market is also held at the summer grounds, on the Saturday one week before Easter. After its first edition, it became a traditional event. If you would like to plan your trip around one of the festivals, check the date in advance.

Lubenská šťopička is a local distillate festival founded in 2008. The programme includes public tastings of selected spirits and liqueurs, as well as music and cultural events. Programme details vary from year to year, so it is worth checking the current programme before your trip.

The Vánoční prodejní výstava Christmas sales exhibition has a tradition spanning more than twenty years and is always held in early December in the hall at Skalka. The two venues are easy to distinguish: the Anenská pouť and Easter market are held at the summer grounds, while the Christmas sales exhibition takes place in the hall at Skalka. Skalka is also a centre for sporting and cultural events in Lubná.
